MARKELPEO4 Feb 2020 08:43Hello everyone,
I have an issue with IKEA Malm drawers that no longer open properly because some parts seem to be blocking their movement. Specifically, it seems that either the drawer slides are catching or the locking mechanism isn’t working correctly – sometimes the drawer gets completely stuck and won’t either pull out or push in fully.
Has anyone dealt with freeing up jammed parts in Malm drawers reliably? Should I completely remove the drawer, or are there tricks that can be tried on the spot? It’s important to me not to damage any parts since the drawers are fairly new.
I would appreciate any tips on how to clean the drawer slides or check the locking system, as well as any experiences with faulty components!

Oh, I know that well! 🙂 What often helps me is to completely remove the drawer, then spray the slides lightly with silicone spray – this makes them move smoothly again! And if any locking mechanisms are sticking, just gently assist them with a small screwdriver. It’s really great when it works smoothly again afterwards!
Hello Markelpeo,
I can contribute something fundamental: Malm drawers are equipped with a special pull-out and locking system, usually made up of plastic tabs that engage with the runners. If the drawer sticks, it is often caused by either dirt or a misalignment of the tabs.
You can try carefully pulling the drawer completely out (there are often small locking levers or clips on the sides for this), then thoroughly clean everything—especially the runners and the plastic holders. Make sure the plastic parts are not broken; if they are, replacement is often the only solution.
If you want, I can also provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to properly remove the drawer and check the mechanism.

Try gently pulling the drawer all the way out (there are often small locking levers or clips on the sides for this)That’s exactly my problem: I can’t find these locking levers, or they’re very hard to move. Is there a trick to reliably locate or identify them? Could they be at the back of the rail instead of the front? I’d prefer not to use force.
