Hello everyone, I am currently planning my new living concept with Ikea Besta furniture and have come across the topic of cable management. Since these models are primarily designed for storage, I haven’t yet found a smart solution for neatly and invisibly routing all the cables for TV, hi-fi, gaming consoles, and routers. Are there any proven tips or tricks for safely and aesthetically managing cables within BESTA furniture without ending up with a tangled mess behind the unit or making access to connections difficult? I would appreciate practical experiences or recommendations for suitable cable ducts, feed-throughs, or other solutions.

I am familiar with this problem and have drilled holes in the back panel and used cable ducts. This way, the cables stay hidden but you still have quick access if you need to make any changes.

Most BESTA modules come with a thin back panel that is easy to drill through. For neat cable management, I recommend the following approach:

- Measure carefully in advance to determine where each device will be placed and the length of the cables.
- Position cable entries as close as possible to power outlets and end devices.
- Use cable channels with self-adhesive backing to route cables cleanly.
- If possible, use flexible spiral wrap or tubing systems that allow bundling.

It is important to plan from the beginning, as making changes afterward is often time-consuming.

Hello Fisherdo,

I’m happy to help. The challenge with BESTA is often that storage space is somewhat limited due to the thin back panel material. Therefore, it’s advisable to position the furniture as close as possible to the wall and power outlets to allow for short cable runs.

A common recommendation is to create larger cutouts in the back panel or to saw narrow slots with a fine saw, allowing cables to be routed directly behind the devices. Be sure not to damage any load-bearing parts or connecting strips when doing this.

In addition, modular cable channels are very practical because they can be customized individually and easily expanded if needed.

I have also cut small cable openings in the side panels at suitable spots and fitted them with rubber grommets to prevent cable damage and improve the appearance.

If you need more technical details, feel free to ask!

You can also use cable ties to bundle the cables and then attach them to the back of the furniture frame. This prevents the cables from lying loose inside the furniture and helps keep everything organized.

Thanks for the advice, I hadn’t considered that.

Another question: Does anyone have experience with combining power strips inside BESTA units and cable management? I want to avoid having to constantly access the cables from the outside or back later on, so an internal solution would be ideal. How complex is this, or are there ready-made modules or accessories offered by Ikea to securely integrate power strips into BESTA?
