In other words, are there practical and time-saving solutions to add extra drawers to existing Metod cabinet systems without having to completely dismantle or extensively modify the whole setup? Ideally, I am looking for a method that is doable even for less experienced DIYers without the need for special tools. Perhaps someone knows some tips for proper preparation, suitable accessories, or helpful installation advice. I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!
First of all, it is important to know that the Metod system is relatively modular, and Ikea offers corresponding accessories for retrofitting. For a straightforward drawer upgrade, you should pay particular attention to the correct rail systems—standardized dimensions and precise measurement of the existing carcasses will help with this. It is recommended to use Metod drawer fronts together with drawer slides that can be attached directly to the carcass without major disassembly. Assembly kits that include all necessary screws and brackets often provide further convenience. This way, you avoid additional purchases and incorrect orders. It is crucial to adjust the drawer dimensions precisely to the available space.

If you measure reasonably accurately and get the right installation accessories, it almost feels like a small puzzle. I once completely retrofitted two drawers – you’ll be amazed how much order suddenly appears! My tip: definitely use rubber or felt pads for the drawer bottoms; this greatly reduces rattling and makes everyday use really easy.

I’m also curious if there are any issues with load distribution or the weight capacity of the drawers when retrofitting. Especially with larger Metod cabinets, it often happens that heavy pots or supplies are stored in the drawers. Do you have any experience with which drawer slide systems are particularly sturdy and easy to install?
