Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of wanting additional feet or legs for my Ikea Kallax shelf to raise the furniture slightly and at the same time improve its stability. My main question is: Where can I get original Kallax extra feet that are actually compatible, not just third-party products where you can never be quite sure if they fit or hold up in the long run?
Does anyone have experience with sources for these Kallax feet or can at least suggest which alternatives make sense if Ikea no longer sells the feet separately?
I look forward to tips, personal experiences, or recommendations for shops that actually carry such accessories. Thank you!

Hello Albert53,
Regarding your question about additional Kallax legs, it is important to first know which version of your Kallax shelf you have, as Ikea has released different versions over the years, some with varying bottom panels and attachment methods.
In principle, Ikea does not offer extra legs as separate replacement parts. Usually, Kallax shelves are designed to either stand without legs or come with the small plastic feet included. What many people do is add alternative legs, but you need to pay close attention to the type of attachment.
The most practical are furniture legs with M8 screws or wooden dowels that can be fastened to the base rails. Many users have had good experiences with specific furniture legs from hardware stores or online retailers that attach via a plate mount. It is important that the legs have an appropriate load capacity and not only fit aesthetically.
Another approach some take is to use legs from other Ikea shelves, such as those from the “Lack” or “Axstad” series. However, this usually requires some DIY skills if you need to modify the drill holes.
What I would like to ask is: Are you looking for legs just to increase the height or also for a visual upgrade? Additionally, what type of flooring do you have? Some legs can damage certain floors or are not suitable for carpets.
If you like, please share the exact dimensions and details of your Kallax version – then I can help you more specifically.

In principle, Ikea does not offer additional feet as separate replacement parts. That’s exactly the problem. Ikea produces mass-market products without a proper spare parts system. The Kallax unit is very simply designed, but as soon as you want something custom—no way! So why let Ikea dictate what feet you have to use?
I think you should simply use the base you’re sitting on. There are plenty of stylish and high-quality furniture legs from third-party manufacturers that can be easily installed. Focusing solely on original Ikea parts just makes things unnecessarily complicated.
Also: is it really worth the effort to look for supposedly matching "Kallax feet"?
I’d rather recommend consciously moving away from the brand and really considering what fits your living style and use in the long term—metal legs, wooden legs, even adjustable ones—there are far more sensible options than just that little bit of Ikea plastic!
Hello everyone,
I understand both the desire for the original Kallax legs and the criticism of being limited by the Ikea brand. A few months ago, I had similar thoughts and did some experimenting myself.
This also made me rethink things, as I realized that the legs don’t necessarily have to be original to look good or be stable. On the other hand, I was worried that using completely different legs might damage the shelf or make it wobbly.
In my case, I finally chose adjustable metal legs, which I mounted with universal fittings. These aren’t Ikea-specific, but they help me adjust the height and deal with uneven floors.
Maybe you should consider a similar approach? Sometimes a little DIY can be a great solution. If you like, I can share how I mounted the legs and which stores I was recommended.

Do you want the legs just to increase the height or also for an aesthetic upgrade? Also, what type of flooring do you have? Thanks first of all for the tips and questions. So, the shelf is the standard Kallax version from 2018, with the typical base panels. I’m using the shelf in the living room on laminate flooring. The primary motivation is to raise the shelf about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) to allow a bit more airflow at the bottom and make cleaning underneath easier. Of course, it should also look good—I’m aiming for a more simple, almost minimalist look, but stable and high quality.

[quote=rebufar, post: k3l7s0, member: XXX]So why should Ikea dictate which legs to use?
I partially agree but still want something suitable for the furniture.
Maybe someone has concrete sources for where to get them?
Thanks!
Additional information:
Ikea does not officially offer replacement feet for the Kallax system. The design is generally not intended to include feet, as it usually relies on the small plastic feet mounted directly on the bottom panel of the shelving unit.
Purchasing feet from third-party suppliers is possible, but three technical aspects must be considered:
1. Attachment: The feet should be mounted using an M8 thread or a comparable system. Original Kallax does not have a standardized connection here, so universal mounting kits are recommended.
2. Load capacity: The shelving unit can be quite heavy when fully loaded, so feet with sufficient load-bearing capacity (at least 50 kg (110 lbs) per foot recommended) should be selected.
3. Height and flooring: Especially on laminate floors, soft glides or protective caps are advisable to prevent scratches.
Sources for these feet include physical DIY stores and specialized online retailers (e.g., furniture-feet websites or marketplaces with detailed product specifications). Often, matching mounting kits can also be ordered there.
Instead of fixed feet, adjustable ones are also a good option to compensate for uneven floors.
I recommend measuring carefully before ordering and specifying the options precisely, as even a few millimeters can make a significant difference.
In summary: Original Kallax replacement feet are not available, but there are several alternatives. However, technical requirements must be carefully considered to ensure a safe and durable solution.
