ᐅ My KALLAX shelf moves even with a light touch – any tips for preventing slipping?

GanodanHello everyone,
I recently bought a KALLAX shelf unit from IKEA and am generally satisfied with it. However, I have noticed that the shelf tends to slide even with very light contact – even when it is empty or only partially loaded. Since it is standing on a smooth laminate floor, I suspect that the low friction is the main cause.
My question to you is: What effective anti-slip solutions do you know that can reliably stabilize the KALLAX shelf without affecting its appearance or functionality? Ideally, it should be something that is easy to apply and can be removed later without leaving any residue. Maybe someone has practical experience with rubber pads, felt pads, or other methods.
I look forward to your tips and advice!

These significantly increase friction between the shelf and the floor, are relatively discreet, and leave no damage when removed.
Alternatively, you can cut and place non-slip rug underlays (e.g., made of nitrile or silicone rubber) underneath, which works especially well on smooth floors.
For laminate floors, I recommend avoiding hard or sharp objects under the shelf, as these can damage the surface. Rubber provides a gentle protective layer here.
It is important that the pads are large enough to distribute the shelf’s weight over a bigger surface area to effectively prevent slipping.
In addition to the solutions mentioned by ONCARTER, there are also special felt furniture pads with a non-slip backing. These protect the floor and improve grip.
Make sure the adhesive surface is dust-free to ensure optimal adhesion. A combination of felt on the top and rubber on the bottom can be very effective on laminate flooring.

I can understand well how a sliding shelf can be annoying, especially if you don’t feel completely safe and are worried it might tip over.
I once fitted a Kallax shelving unit with transparent non-slip mats that are actually intended for bathtubs. They are hardly visible and provide great grip. It simply makes you feel more secure, even when you touch the shelf or wear shoes with smooth soles.
If you’d like to try something else, I also recommend securing the shelf to the wall. IKEA often includes appropriate brackets for fixing it in place.
