Hello everyone,

I recently installed new IKEA Metod base cabinets in my kitchen and am working on optimizing storage as efficiently as possible. My specific question is: How can I maximize storage efficiency in IKEA Metod base cabinets, especially when dealing with different cabinet sizes and various kitchen appliances or storage containers?

At the moment, I mostly use the standard drawers but feel there’s more potential for better organization and accessibility. Are there any special dividers, accessories, or organizational tips you would recommend to fully utilize the space and make kitchen tasks easier?

I’m looking forward to your experiences and advice, including adaptations for individual needs like cutlery, pots, or cleaning supplies. Thanks in advance!

Effective storage utilization in IKEA Metod base cabinets can be achieved through some basic considerations and adjustments:

- Use internal drawers or inserts specifically designed for smaller items to prevent things from getting lost or cluttered.
- Flexible dividers help customize the space according to item size, especially for cutlery, wraps, or spices.
- For larger modules, pull-out shelves with holders for pots and lids are suitable.

It is important to know the cabinet dimensions and types in order to select inserts that fit precisely. This usually requires accurate measurements before planning. Also, do not overlook the handle area, as storage is only efficient if it remains easily accessible.

That’s a good point that is often overlooked. To fully address the topic of space utilization with IKEA Metod, it’s best to take a step-by-step approach:

- First, roughly categorize the contents (cooking utensils, pantry items, cleaning supplies, etc.) and prioritize based on frequency of use.
- Then identify the cabinet types (40, 60, 80 cm (16, 24, 31½ inches) wide) and check how the internal drawers function: whether they are fully extendable, how deep they are, and what height adjustment options are available.
- Here, the Metod insert systems like VARIERA offer a wide range of modular components that you can combine according to your own logic.

It’s also important to pay attention to small details: for example, whether the full drawer depth is utilized (which is not always the case with standard drawers) and whether it makes sense to add trays or boxes on some shelves for clearer separation.

What does your current setup look like exactly? Which cabinet sizes do you have installed and what do you mainly want to store? This way, advice can be more targeted.

Good question, thanks! I mainly have 60 cm (24 inch) base cabinets, plus a few that are 40 cm (16 inch) wide. They are fitted with IKEA Metod standard drawers — full-extension, but so far without any special inserts. I mostly use them for cookware and storage containers, as well as a collection spot for cleaning supplies near the sink.

Cutlery and small kitchen utensils have so far been stored in standard cutlery trays, placed inside one of the drawers. However, I often feel that things are piling up or seem chaotic, so I’m looking for a better solution to improve organization and quick access.

For pantry items, I’m also considering stackable boxes or special inserts. I’m especially interested in practical tips that work well in daily kitchen use and definitely make better use of the storage space.

Pull-outs with pot lid holders and adjustable dividers are ideal for cookware, keeping pots securely in place.

Cutlery trays like VARIERA fit well and make optimal use of the space.

It is best to hang cleaning supplies in adjustable baskets on the inside of the cabinet door – this saves space in the pull-out.

Exactly! Additionally, a subtle play with stackable boxes brings lasting organizational joy – everything stays within reach, and it almost feels like being in a professional kitchen!

You can also equip some cabinet drawers with flexible compartment inserts that work like small drawers – perfect for spices or cloths that otherwise end up scattered in the corner.

And honestly, a bit of fun while organizing helps too. You immediately see how productively the space is being used!
