Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets and have a specific question about the doors: What is the best way to mount and adjust the Metod doors to ensure completely silent operation and a perfect fit? I mean that the doors should neither rattle when closing nor operate unevenly. I am aware that the hinges offer some adjustability, but I have no experience with how to set them precisely or whether additional materials or tools might help achieve truly soft and play-free closing. Are there any proven tips or techniques for this, especially ones that remain effective in the long term? Thanks in advance!

Most issues with Metod doors stem from incorrect hinge adjustment. Use the designated screws to adjust the hinges so that the doors fit flush and centered. Dampers can help achieve quiet closing if they are not already integrated.

It is important to adjust the Metod hinges precisely according to the instructions: - Make fine adjustments to height, depth, and sideways alignment - Tighten all screws in the correct sequence to avoid tension - Check the rubber buffers on the cabinets and replace or add them if necessary

For silent closing, Ikea offers built-in dampers that can be retrofitted. Those seeking maximum comfort should not overlook this damping feature. Over time, periodic inspections and adjustments are recommended, as the door hinges can loosen slightly with use.

I have installed Metod doors several times and can recommend the following steps based on experience: First, be sure to remove the hinges completely and adjust the doors separately. Pay attention to the three adjustable screws: the height adjustment for vertical alignment, the depth adjustment for fitting the door to the cabinet, and the lateral screw to minimize the gap between the door and the cabinet. Important: for silent closing, use high-quality damping elements, either integrated into the hinge or mounted separately as soft-close buffers. I personally also use self-adhesive felt pads on the door frames to soften light contact. When adjusting, proceed very precisely and in small increments, ideally using a spirit level or a thin gap gauge. It is also important to keep the hinge attachments clean and replace any damaged screws or plastic parts, as these can cause rattling noises over time. Does anyone have experience with other types of dampers or special installation strategies that reduce noise even further?

The most important factor for a perfect fit and silent closing is the precise adjustment of all three axes of the Metod hinges. Many people overlook that the depth adjustment, in particular, is often underestimated, and overtightening can cause the door to no longer close properly. Additionally, applying a thin silicone or felt strip at the hinge contact points can help reduce noise. I also recommend checking the magnetic locks in the MultiBox case, if present. Ikea’s soft-close dampers are good, but for higher demands, precisely adjusted hinges can sometimes be more effective than dampers alone.

In my experience, the most important thing is that the doors are properly aligned and all the hinge screws are tightened securely. Additionally, integrated soft-close mechanisms are essential to prevent rattling or banging. Felt or rubber bumpers at contact points can also help.
