Hello everyone, I am looking for effective methods to remove stains and grease from the fronts of the Ikea Metod kitchen system without damaging the surface. The kitchen fronts have a painted, slightly glossy finish that is sensitive to harsh cleaners or mechanical abrasion. I have tried several times to remove grease using dish soap and microfiber cloths, but some stubborn stains remain or the fronts look a bit dull afterward. Therefore, I am particularly interested in home remedies or cleaning products you would recommend to remove both grease and possibly paint stains or other dirt completely without roughening or damaging the surface. Has anyone had good experiences with this? Tips on proper application (e.g., using soft cloths, avoiding abrasive cleaners, etc.) would also be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hey, great question! I had the same issue with my Metod, but don’t worry, it can definitely be fixed! 😊 The best way to start is with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap, which often works well to dissolve grease. Important: don’t apply too much pressure when wiping—better to be gentle! For stubborn stains, I like to use a mixture of water and a little vinegar (1:1) – it works wonders and is still gentle! And yes, make sure to only use soft microfiber cloths, no scrubbing with abrasive sponges, as that can cause scratches! If you have a heavier grease layer, just place a damp cloth on it for a few minutes to loosen the grime. I’m sure if you handle it carefully, your fronts will look like new again soon! You’ve got this! 💪

I would like to add that the surface of the Ikea Metod fronts is sensitive to abrasive cleaning agents. Therefore, I recommend the following approach: - Use only mild cleaning products, preferably pH-neutral or slightly acidic, such as diluted vinegar. - A soft microfiber cloth is ideal, and pressure during cleaning should be minimal to avoid creating micro-scratches. - For stubborn grease stains, allowing the cleaning agent to sit briefly before gently wiping can help, but never use abrasive sponges. - Avoid aggressive solvents or alcohol, as these can dissolve the finish. I have personally had good results with this method without causing any damage to the surface. If the stain is very persistent, it is advisable to test the cleaning method first in an inconspicuous area.

I would be cautious here. Although vinegar is a common household remedy, it is acidic and could potentially damage the clear lacquer coating on Metod fronts if used frequently. Without long-term studies or manufacturer guidance, the risk should not be underestimated.

I recommend using cleaning products specifically designed for painted surfaces instead – for example, mild all-purpose cleaners without alcohol or ammonia. Additionally, it makes sense to proceed gradually when removing tough dirt: start with mild solutions, then use stronger ones if necessary – but never use harsh chemicals or abrasive tools.

Even if a cleaner works well in the short term, one should be aware of the potential long-term damage. Especially with glossy fronts, improper cleaning can easily cause permanent changes to the gloss level and surface texture.

I completely agree! 😊 For those who prefer to avoid harsh chemicals, the tried-and-true mixture works well: just use a little dish soap, lukewarm water, a soft cloth, and some patience – this gently removes grease stains without any hassle.

And if you’ve ever had a tough battle with your refrigerator: just wipe it again with plain water, no additives, to remove any residue. This protects the surface and keeps the finish shiny.

But beware: no abrasive cleansers or rough sponges, as those will cause permanent damage to the paint!

With a bit of care and gentle maintenance, the beautiful Metod fronts will stay bright and you’ll keep your kitchen happy! 😉
