parmanuel12 Aug 2022 19:43Hello everyone, I am currently considering how to make my Ikea Pax system more functional. I already find the basic structure quite solid, but there are various accessories that can significantly increase storage capacity and usability. I am particularly interested in additions that not only enhance the wardrobe’s appearance but primarily improve organization inside or make accessing clothing easier. Which accessories or extensions do you use with Pax to optimize the functionality of your system? Are there any real recommendations for interior fittings such as drawer inserts, pull-outs, or special hanging solutions that you would recommend for different uses? I appreciate any experiences or practical tips!
There are several well-designed, high-quality accessories for PAX that significantly improve storage space. Particularly recommended are:
- Drawer inserts with compartments: These help organize smaller clothing items like socks or underwear.
- Flexible pull-outs, for example for shoes or accessories, which make storing items more convenient and orderly.
- Hanging systems with extendable rods that make accessing clothes easier, especially in deeper cabinets.
- Mirrors on the inside of the doors, which save space and are practical.
The overall quality is generally good, but it is important to pay attention to the maximum load capacity, especially for pull-outs. Often, it is more worthwhile to select accessories according to personal needs rather than buying everything.

Hanging fixtures with extendable rods that make accessing clothing easier, especially in deeper closets. That is a strong point, but one should not overlook that such mechanisms can be prone to wear over time. While Ikea products are affordable, their movable parts often receive criticism regarding durability. Therefore, those who place high importance on longevity might want to consider whether there are compatible alternatives of higher quality.
Additionally, self-assembled flexibility naturally offers a lot of options. However, it is also worth evaluating whether the extra effort in planning due to numerous accessories might eventually limit ease of use.
I can fully understand the question because I started optimizing my PAX wardrobe myself. It’s really a balancing act between making it as functional as possible without overloading it. For example, I used drawer inserts designed for underwear, which made my morning routine much more relaxed since I no longer have to rummage through messy boxes.
I can highly recommend the mirror; it convinced me especially because my bedroom had no space for a large mirror otherwise. And another tip: The small storage boxes from Ikea fit perfectly into the drawers and are very helpful for separating different clothing items.

Ikea products are affordable, but there is often criticism regarding the durability of the moving parts. That sums it up well. Especially with the drawers or extendable clothes rails, you notice after some time that they no longer slide as smoothly as at first. For someone planning to use their PAX system long-term, I would therefore recommend using the basic accessories from Ikea and possibly integrating high-quality aftermarket parts from other suppliers.
Furthermore, I think it makes sense to carefully consider what you need most often when choosing the interior layout. Simple shelves are sufficient for items used less frequently, while drawers are very practical for everyday clothing. The combination is what counts.

PECLARISSA14 Aug 2022 09:27Hey! I just wanted to share my two cents 😊
I found that combining adjustable clothes rails with drawer inserts is really great – it makes it so much easier to keep everything organized, and it looks good too. The smaller boxes for jewelry or belts also help keep things tidy and save you from annoying searches.
And don’t forget: the LED strip lighting from Ikea is super easy to install, making the PAX wardrobe much more practical, especially when choosing outfits in the evening.
Not to mention, it’s way more fun to mix and match outfits in front of a well-lit wardrobe in the morning 😉
