Good morning everyone, I need your experience: How can I quickly disassemble IKEA Platsa furniture? I have several combined cabinets that need to be rearranged now. It is important to me to find a method that protects the floor but also saves as much time as possible. Does anyone have tips on where to start first or if special tools can make the job easier? I have already tried to loosen the metal connectors without instructions, but it doesn’t go very smoothly. Details about screw types or other connections would also be helpful. I appreciate any advice!

Hi bole6, thanks for the detailed question. With Platsa, it’s important to first remove the fronts, as many screws and metal connectors are hidden behind them. I recommend a good cordless screwdriver set with various bits, especially Torx and Phillips. The procedure is roughly as follows: - Remove the fronts - Take out the drawers and shelves - Loosen the connecting screws on the sides from the outside - then carefully pull the carcass apart at the joint areas. This protects the furniture surfaces and reduces unnecessary effort. If you like, I can also sketch the exact locations of the metal connectors that need to be primarily loosened.

In addition to Jukin: The metal connectors used in Platsa are usually cam locks with a locking function. The right tool is essential for quick disassembly – a small flathead screwdriver with a wide tip often grips better than a bit that is too small. The sequence should be as described: remove all fronts first, then relieve tension by taking out internal components to avoid working against stress. Soaking any felt or plastic protection on the feet before moving the unit also helps protect the floor from scratches.

For clarity: The Platsa modular furniture consists of individual modules connected by metal angle brackets and cam locks. Quick disassembly is based on: - Identifying the cam locks (usually accessible from the front or side) - Systematically loosening them with an appropriate screwdriver (typically a 6 mm (1/4 inch) flathead or Torx T20) - Removing all front panels to access the central connection points - Gently separating the modules after loosening the connections - Removing the drawers beforehand to reduce the weight before starting disassembly. Tools should be prepared in advance to save unnecessary trips.

Yes, having the right bits is really important. Last time, I tried to work without the correct Torx bit, and it took forever. You really need patience because disassembly can be quite frustrating, especially if you can hardly move the piece of furniture. If you're working alone, in my opinion, it's worth placing the heavy modules on sturdy cardboard or wooden boards to protect the floor and give you better access to the connections.

Remove the fronts and then loosen the screws on the sides. Take out the drawers, and then the carcass can usually be separated without much force. Only tools needed: Phillips screwdriver or Torx T20.
