Hello everyone, I have an Ikea Metod worktop that unfortunately has some scratches and a few dents. Since I’m not fully familiar with the material and surface, I’d like to know: What is the best way to repair scratches and dents in Ikea Metod worktops so that the surface damage remains as barely visible as possible? I’m particularly interested in practical methods for the surface and material, either DIY solutions that can be done at home or recommended products from hardware stores. Also, any advice on substances to avoid would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello, you can gently sand light scratches with fine sandpaper (grit 400 or higher) and then treat the area with furniture polish or wax. For dents, using an iron with a damp cloth often helps to slightly raise the wood fibers. Be careful with laminate – do not iron at too high a temperature!

I understand how frustrating such damage can be. I spent quite some time considering how to repair my countertop and was often unsure whether DIY solutions would actually work. It’s important not to treat the countertop too aggressively, otherwise you might notice color differences later. I also had some success with a special repair paste from the hardware store that matched the Ikea surface color quite well.

For repairing scratches and dents in Ikea Metod countertops, I recommend the following structured approach: - First, check whether the surface is laminate, melamine, or wood veneer. - For minor scratches: use fine sandpaper followed by oiling with suitable products. - For dents: initially try gently using an iron with a damp cloth, then if necessary, apply repair filler. - Avoid strong solvents or harsh cleaning agents, as they can damage the finish. - For deep damage, replacing the countertop might be more cost-effective. This way, repair attempts are targeted and help prevent further damage.

I believe that before starting any repairs, you should be certain about the exact material of the countertop. Ikea Metod has different surface finishes, and what works for laminate can cause serious damage to melamine coatings. Are there reliable sources or experiences regarding which repair pastes or polishes are truly durable long-term for Metod? And do the iron-on methods really work without risking damage to the surface material?

From my own experience: Repair pastes matched to wood tones work well on solid wood surfaces, while a clear furniture polish can effectively mask small scratches on laminate. These products remain long-lasting as long as the surface does not have extensive damage.
