Hello everyone, I’m planning to assemble my new IKEA Brimnes wardrobe in the next few days and want to optimize my tool set for the job. Specifically, I’m interested in which tools are really unnecessary for assembling the IKEA Brimnes.
I already have the typical IKEA assembly kit, including hex keys and screwdrivers with various heads. Are there still tools that can be safely left out because they simply aren’t needed? Or tools that only take up unnecessary space?
I want to make the assembly efficient, without many unnecessary extras, and also avoid missing anything important. Your tips and experiences would be very helpful!

Hello Isak63, great that you’re asking such specific questions! 😊 From my own experience, for the Brimnes you really only need the included Allen key and a Phillips screwdriver. Everything else is mostly unnecessary!
I’m especially impressed with how IKEA keeps the assembly so simple. No hammer, no pliers, just screws and you’re done! So if you start with a basic small tool kit, that’s completely enough. Good luck – you’ve got this! 👍

Interesting question, but I believe the topic "Which tools are unnecessary when assembling the IKEA Brimnes" is viewed too narrowly. Why not just reach for the proper tools and at least grab a good cordless drill?
Sure, IKEA provides everything needed, but honestly: is a cordless drill really unnecessary? In my opinion, anyone who does it with hand tools is wasting their valuable time. Therefore, I would say it’s more unnecessary to skip professional tools ;-) But that’s just my provocative opinion.

Let me be a bit more specific, Isak63. The IKEA Brimnes series is designed so that assembly can mostly be done with the included tools. Hex screws are often used, so the included Allen key is definitely necessary.
You will definitely need a regular Phillips screwdriver, as some connector screws have this type of head. In my opinion, tools like a hammer, pliers, or even a ratchet are unnecessary since there are no nails or special nuts that would require them.
Be careful with cordless screwdrivers: if you don’t work carefully, the screw head can be damaged or the wood can split. If you don’t have experience and use the tool carefully at a low speed, there is still a risk.
What I would also like to know is how much basic DIY knowledge you have. Have you assembled IKEA furniture before, or is this your first time putting together furniture?

Have you assembled IKEA furniture before, or is this your first time putting things together?Thank you very much for the detailed advice! Actually, I have already assembled a few IKEA furniture pieces. So, I do have the basics, but sometimes I wonder if I really need all the tools. The idea of using a cordless drill makes sense, but I prefer not to bring too much—just the essentials.
If you say a hammer and pliers aren’t necessary, that sounds very well thought out. Thanks for that.

BASTIANTI27 Jul 2016 07:44Hello everyone, I’m jumping in! 🙂 For the Brimnes wardrobe, I really only used the included Allen key and a regular Phillips screwdriver. I left out everything else like a hammer, pliers, tape measure, or similar tools, and I had no problems!
The important thing is: take your time, and everything will go smoothly – even without a big toolbox! You’ll see, assembling it is really fun! Good luck getting started!
