Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the task of installing the doors for my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets. I want to work efficiently while ensuring no damage occurs and the doors are perfectly aligned. Since Ikea’s instructions can sometimes be a bit brief, I would like to hear from you: What tips and tricks do you have specifically for the quick and secure installation of Ikea Metod cabinet doors? Are there any tools, techniques, or sequences that have proven effective for you? I am particularly interested in how to best adjust the Metod door hinges to avoid misaligned doors and also to make the fastening process as stress-free as possible. Thanks in advance for your experience!

Hello elion65,

I completely understand your concerns – installing Metod doors requires a bit more precision than it might seem at first. I recommend the following approach:

- First, pre-assemble all door hinges by fully attaching the hinges to the doors before you start mounting them on the cabinet. This helps minimize alignment errors.

- It’s best to use a cordless drill with torque control to prevent over-tightening and avoid damage to the materials.

- For door adjustment, I suggest loosely installing all hinges first, then using the hinge adjustment screws to align the doors in height and depth. Especially with multiple doors, it’s useful to lift all doors at once and adjust the gaps before tightening the screws completely.

- A little tip: if you attach a thin strip of felt tape or sealing tape to the back of the door near the hinges, it helps reduce pinch marks when closing the doors.

Have you worked with Metod doors before, or is this your first time? I can also provide you with a detailed description of the exact screw sequence if you like.

It is best to attach all hinges to the door before hanging it. Then simply hang the door and adjust it using the adjustment screws. A cordless drill with low torque helps to avoid over-tightening.

For quick and secure installation of the Ikea Metod cabinet doors, I recommend using the included drilling templates exactly as provided. This saves you from lengthy measuring and ensures the correct positioning of the hinges. Also, when tightening the screws, pay attention to the recommended torque to avoid damaging the materials and screws. For final adjustment, use the adjustment screws on the hinges: doors can be precisely aligned vertically, horizontally, and in depth. Usually, one screw per hinge is enough to lock the position after adjustment.

Hello elion65,

I have put together a brief procedure that should help you install the Metod doors as safely and efficiently as possible:

- Prepare all parts in advance and keep screws and hinges within easy reach.
- First, attach the hinges to the doors, using Ikea’s drilling templates to position the holes accurately.
- When mounting the doors onto the cabinet frame, I recommend working with a partner to better hold and align the doors.
- After hanging the doors, use the adjustment screws on the hinges to fine-tune the gap and position precisely.
- For the initial installation, tighten all screws by hand only. Once everything fits properly, you can torque them down with a power screwdriver.

Common mistakes include over-tightening too early and not aligning the doors properly. If the doors stick or don’t close evenly, check the hinges and alignment again. Good luck!

That’s a very useful tip, thank you! I only have a basic cordless drill without a torque indicator. What torque setting would you recommend to avoid damaging the wood but still ensure a secure screw connection?

Are there standardized gap widths for Metod doors, or does each kitchen cabinet vary? I want the gaps to look as even as possible.
