Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install my Ikea Pax wardrobe in a room with laminate flooring or alternatively vinyl flooring. My specific question is: What is the best and safest way to secure an Ikea Pax wardrobe on laminate or vinyl floors without damaging the floor and while ensuring stability?

I want to prevent the wardrobe from shifting due to slight movements or small vibrations, but I also do not want to cause permanent damage to the laminate or vinyl by direct screwing. Which mounting or fastening methods are recommended? Are there suitable floor anchors, protective plates, or special adapters?

Additionally, I am interested in any special precautions or tips for installation on these types of soft floor coverings. I look forward to your experiences and advice!

It is best to use the wall brackets provided by Ikea and mount the Pax to the wall. This will solve the issues of floor damage and instability.

A few additional tips regarding fastening on laminate or vinyl flooring:
- Avoid screwing directly into the floor. This can damage the material and cause moisture problems, especially with vinyl.
- Use wall anchors provided by Ikea for wall mounting – these are particularly important for tall, heavy Pax wardrobes.
- To improve stability on the floor, you can place anti-slip mats or rubber pads under the feet. This prevents slipping on smooth surfaces without causing damage.
- If the Pax consists of multiple modules, be sure to connect them to each other as well.

In short: The load should not be supported by the floor; securing to the wall is crucial.

I also have laminate flooring and attached my Pax wardrobe only with the Ikea wall brackets. The feet simply stand on the laminate, with small felt pads underneath to prevent scratches. Nothing more is needed.

Thank you for the advice. I had also suspected that screwing directly into the floor might be problematic.

Do you have any issues with the furniture sliding when loaded because of the felt pads?
And how do you secure the wall attachment? Just the supplied anchors, or have you reinforced them somehow?

I want the furniture to remain stable and not wobble or come loose, even with stronger shocks (e.g., a child playing).

For the secure installation of an Ikea Pax wardrobe on laminate or vinyl floors, the following recommendations apply:
- Anchor the unit exclusively to the wall, never to the floor; the floor is too sensitive for direct screws and can be permanently damaged.
- Use sturdy wall plugs, and if necessary, reinforce with stronger anchors (e.g., metal expansion anchors) depending on the wall material.
- To prevent the wardrobe from sliding sideways, rubber anti-slip pads under the wardrobe feet or adhesive rubber strips on the floor are recommended.
- Screwing the individual modules together increases overall stability.
- For very soft vinyl flooring, a thin, rigid base plate under the wardrobe foot can be helpful.
Following these guidelines ensures that the Ikea Pax stands securely, does not move, and the floor remains undamaged.
