Hello everyone, I have a question about the Ikea Platsa furniture that I am currently considering. Do the PLATSA units come with a soft-close feature on the doors or drawers as standard?

I would like to know if this damping mechanism is built-in from the start or if it needs to be added separately. Precise information would be great, as I have heard different statements but have not found a clear answer yet.

I would appreciate it if someone with experience with PLATSA and its features, especially regarding soft-close, could share their insights. Thanks in advance!

Ikea PLATSA furniture does not come with a soft-close feature by default. If you want soft-close, you need to purchase and install separate dampers.

I can confirm this: PLATSA components generally do not come with soft-close mechanisms. This means that doors and drawers are not automatically dampened when closing.

If you want this feature, IKEA or third-party suppliers offer suitable soft-close dampers that you can retrofit. It is important to choose the correct models that match the PLATSA hinges and drawer runners to ensure everything operates smoothly.

If you need help with installation or selecting the right parts, I am happy to assist!

That is correct; PLATSA is designed to be modular and cost-effective. As a result, Ikea does not include comfort features like soft-close in the basic setup.

Technically, the hinges in PLATSA are simple flap hinges without integrated dampers. Soft-close dampers can be retrofitted if needed, but this usually requires some effort, as they must be installed precisely in the correct positions.

Additionally, the space behind the front panel varies depending on the cabinet depth, which can affect the installation of the dampers. If you plan to add soft-close, I recommend:
- First checking exactly which type of hinges are installed
- Selecting appropriate soft-close dampers that are compatible
- Precise measurements during installation to avoid mechanical issues

Do you have a specific PLATSA model in mind? That could help tailor the recommendation further.

To briefly add some factual information on this:

Ikea does not offer soft-close fronts or integrated damping as standard with PLATSA.

The available hinges and drawer slides typically use basic hinges and runners without soft-close technology.

However, third-party suppliers offer various retrofit dampers. There is no standardized recommendation, as compatibility varies from model to model. Retrofitting can extend the furniture’s lifespan if done correctly.

In summary:
- PLATSA furniture does not have integrated soft-close functionality
- Retrofitting is possible but requires some DIY effort
- Ikea does not sell soft-close hinges specifically for PLATSA

It is advisable to consider before purchase whether the effort involved in retrofitting is worth the benefit for you.

Hey, great topic! I have PLATSA furniture myself and can confirm that it doesn’t come with a soft-close feature as standard – which is a shame because I really love that! But no problem, with a bit of patience you can easily retrofit well-fitting soft-close dampers.

If you’re still wondering: I had the PLATSA chest of drawers, which uses simple roller slides and hinges without dampers. For me, the upgrade was worth it and now everything works really quietly and smoothly.

The key is to order the right retrofit parts – not every soft-close solution fits, but there are plenty of options online. So keep at it, it’s definitely worth it! Good luck with your PLATSA project!
