Hello everyone,

I am currently reorganizing my living and workspace and have become quite interested in the IKEA Platsa system because of its flexibility and adaptability. My question is: Are there any practical storage boxes that really fit well with Platsa?

I’m not referring to the official IKEA boxes, but rather ones that you can buy separately to complement the system effectively—matched in terms of size, material, durability, and appearance. I’m especially interested in boxes that integrate well, both for inside the wardrobe and as stackable solutions or drawer replacements.

Does anyone know of such products or have any tips on what to look for? I want to avoid half-measures or constantly rearranged setups as much as possible. Thanks in advance!

Yes, indeed, the Tergarten boxes from IKEA fit particularly well with the PLATSA system. They are stackable and often compatible in size. Otherwise, I recommend looking for boxes that are about 35 cm deep (14 inches), as this is usually the standard.

Hello ruoral,

I find your question very relevant since the PLATSA system is designed for customized solutions, but that doesn’t automatically mean every box will fit perfectly.

An important point is that PLATSA furniture is often available in depths of 35 cm or 50 cm (14 inches or 20 inches). Therefore, you should look for boxes that do not exceed these depth measurements.

Many users report that transparent storage boxes made of polypropylene—such as those from brands like Curver—work well because they are lightweight, sturdy, and visually unobtrusive. However, there is no official recommendation or custom sizing for PLATSA, which means some trial and error is necessary.

For drawer replacements, IKEA VARIERA boxes can also be an option. They’re not perfect but often serve as a practical interim solution.

If you prefer stackable options, sturdier plastic boxes or acrylic drawers are often a good choice because they hold up well, although they can be more expensive.

My advice is to measure your PLATSA module carefully and compare the dimensions with the boxes—this way you’re sure to find something suitable.

Well, I would say it definitely needs to be something that not only fits but is also easy to handle. Nothing more frustrating than trying to pull out a box and it gets stuck or something. 😀

I’ve had good experiences with simple polypropylene boxes because they are lightweight and transparent – so you can easily see what’s inside. You might consider adding some felt to the edges to prevent scratching.

And yes, of course: if you want something more stylish, there are now nice fabric boxes with reinforced bottoms that fit well with the light wood design of PLATSA. They’re practical if you want to store clothes or textiles.

But most importantly: don’t overload them and rather use several small boxes instead of one huge one. That makes organizing easier and looks better too.

I find it noteworthy that compatibility is often mentioned here without specifying exact dimensions or tolerances.

While 35 cm (14 inches) is a common depth, the PLATSA system varies significantly in height and width. Simply choosing a box with a 35 cm (14 inches) depth does not necessarily ensure a perfect fit, let alone stability on the shelf.

What I would be interested to know: Are there any experiences with truly custom solutions, perhaps even non-IKEA boxes that are modular and adjustable? Too often, people mention things that "somehow fit," which, in my opinion, usually means a compromise.

Does anyone here perhaps have a solution that is actually tailored exactly to the dimensions of PLATSA and requires no DIY modifications?

For additional information:

The PLATSA system comes in three standard depths: 35, 50, and 20 cm (for top modules). For the 35 cm depth, it is advisable to choose boxes with a maximum depth of 33 cm (13 inches) to allow some clearance.

The internal dimensions of the modules are also crucial, not just the external measurements, since the boxes need to fit inside the carcass.

A practical recommendation is boxes from the “IKEA SAMLA” series – they are sturdy, stackable, and available in appropriate sizes. For enhanced stability with drawer slides, the internal drawer inserts from PLATSA itself or the transparent IKEA VARIERA boxes are also suitable.

When considering alternatives, I recommend checking the materials and load capacity, as some plastic boxes may deform under weight.

In summary: You should always expect slight variations and related scenarios; ideally, compare the box dimensions with the measurements before buying.
