Hello everyone, I have a specific question about my Ikea Metod kitchen: For some time now, one of the drawers has become quite loose, noticeable by wobbling and slight play when pulling it out. The drawer doesn’t stick, but it no longer slides as smoothly as it did initially. I suspect that the drawer slides are not engaging properly anymore or perhaps a screw is loose. However, I would like to fix the problem permanently without having to replace the entire drawer. Does anyone have experience with issues like this, especially with Metod drawers, and can offer advice on how to restore the drawer’s stability effectively and permanently? A guide on checking the mechanism and useful repair steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey bedo6, this sounds like a typical case of loose guide rails or mounting points. 😅 With Metod drawers, the side metal runners sometimes tend to loosen, especially if the drawer is frequently loaded. My tip: Pull the drawer all the way out, carefully check the screws on the guide rails, and gently tighten them with an appropriate screwdriver. Often, this is enough to eliminate the wobbling. If the screws no longer hold properly, a bit of wood glue or small additional dowels can help stabilize the setup. Good luck!

Hello bedo6, I also have a Metod drawer where the sliding rails loosened over time. Besides tightening the screws, it is important to check both the drawer and the sliding rail for any damage. Often, the rails warp due to excessive load or incorrect installation. One option is to clean the metal rails and lightly lubricate them with some silicone grease to help them slide more smoothly again. For loose holes in the side panel, wooden plugs or suitable dowels can help secure the screws better. If you like, I can also send you a step-by-step repair guide.

Great question, bedo6! I had a similar issue with my Metod kitchen, and it can be really frustrating when a drawer feels loose. 😄 What worked best for me was the following: remove the drawer, completely loosen the runner rails, then use a wood drill bit to slightly deepen the screw holes. After that, fill the holes with small wooden wedges or folded wood shavings so the screws have something to grip. Finally, tighten the screws and reassemble everything. This made my drawer rock solid again! Give it a try!

Pull out the drawer and tighten the screws on the drawer slides. If that is not enough, press wood shavings into the screw holes and retighten.

Also check whether the side walls of the drawer itself are still stable. Looseness could originate from there as well.
