Hello everyone, I am currently working on assembling the sliding doors for the Ikea Pax wardrobe and have a detailed question: How is the overall construction of the sliding doors designed, which components are essential, and how are they installed to ensure smooth operation while remaining stable? I am especially interested in how the running tracks, rollers, and guiding systems interact and what you need to pay close attention to during installation to avoid issues later on, such as doors hanging or sticking. I have read the instructions, but some steps are unclear to me—for example, how exactly the rollers are secured at the top and bottom and how to adjust the correct tension. Are there any practical tips or tricks from experience? Thanks in advance for all helpful answers!

Hi Lameo4! It’s great that you’re looking closely at the construction of the PAX sliding doors! 🙂 The doors basically operate with two tracks, one at the top and one at the bottom, between which the door rollers move. It’s important to first align the tracks correctly and securely screw them in place, as this ensures the doors run smoothly and steadily.

The top rollers are often height-adjustable, allowing you to fine-tune the door’s position perfectly—this is a definite advantage because it lets you align the door precisely so it doesn’t hang crookedly. When hanging the door, you need to slot it in at the top first and then guide the bottom rollers into the lower track. Make sure the rollers fully engage in the track; otherwise, the door can get stuck.

My advice: take your time and try several adjustments with the rollers until the door moves smoothly, and while tightening, check if the door still glides easily. This worked really well for me! Good luck, you can do it!

How Ikea PAX Sliding Doors Work: The doors are designed to ensure a horizontal and stable movement. The system uses two tracks: the upper track holds height-adjustable rollers that allow proper alignment and compensate for minor unevenness.

At the bottom, there is another guide rail where so-called guide rollers or guide strips stabilize the door and prevent it from tipping sideways. The interaction of these components is crucial for smooth operation.

During installation, it is important that all parts are positioned precisely. The tracks must be perfectly level, as unevenness can cause problems when sliding. The rollers are usually adjusted with screws, with the upper rollers setting the height, ensuring smooth movement. The lower guide elements are typically fixed in place and prevent the door from coming off the track.

Exactly, and I would like to add some details because there are several technical nuances with the PAX sliding doors that are often overlooked. The assembly consists of the following main components:

- Upper track: This is attached to the top edge of the cabinet frame. The rollers running inside it are height-adjustable to align the doors precisely with the cabinet. A precise adjustment is absolutely necessary to avoid any twisting or binding.

- Lower track: This is where the guide rollers run, providing lateral stability and preventing the door from tilting or coming off track.

- The door panels themselves have special hangers on the back that hold the rollers. It is important to hand-tighten all screws before the final assembly and then gradually tighten them to prevent the doors from becoming misaligned.

- Special feature: The adjustment screws on the upper rollers allow fine-tuning so that different door heights or small floor irregularities can be compensated.

- Tip: During installation, make sure the doors close flush and do not hit against each other when closed.

If you want, I can also explain the step-by-step process I recommend for the assembly to make it as smooth and stress-free as possible. What cabinet width and door variants are you installing exactly?

Thanks for your offer! I’m assembling a PAX wardrobe that is 150 cm (59 inches) wide, with two sliding doors, each 75 cm (30 inches) wide. The doors will have mirrors attached.

It’s important for me to know how to attach the running rails on a longer cabinet to prevent any sagging, and which specific steps are recommended for adjusting the doors. Also, I wonder if I should hang both doors completely first or install and adjust them one door at a time. Is there a proven sequence to follow to avoid any issues?

Hello! For a width of 150 cm (59 inches), it is advisable to secure the sliding rails as centrally as possible and firmly at the ends. With continuous rails or longer profiles, make sure to use the supplied mounting points to prevent the profile from sagging.

- Great idea with the mirrors! This makes the doors slightly heavier, so particularly careful adjustments are recommended.

- Regarding the installation sequence: It’s best to install the top sliding rail first, then hang the door panels temporarily to check the height and adjust using the roller screws. After that, secure the bottom guide rail and check that the doors slide smoothly without resistance. Only then install both doors fully and make fine adjustments together.

If the doors are hung incorrectly or the sliding rails are not aligned parallel, binding issues can occur. Therefore, proceed step by step and check carefully.
