Hello everyone, I am planning to secure my new Ikea Pax wardrobe to the wall to ensure maximum stability and safety, especially since I have children at home. My specific question is: How can Ikea Pax wardrobes be mounted securely and professionally to the wall to prevent tipping?

I understand that Ikea requires wall fixing, but is the supplied bracket sufficient? Which plugs and screws are best suited for different wall types (concrete, drywall, brick)? What important precautions should be taken to avoid accidents?

Additionally, I am curious if there are differences when mounting individual units versus assembled wardrobe sections. I have already done some research but would greatly appreciate tips from experienced users here. Thanks in advance!

Good and very important question, especially when there are children in the house. As a general rule, I always recommend using the supplied wall brackets, but the fasteners must be suitable for the wall. For solid walls, heavy-duty anchors are the best choice. For drywall, it is better to use special cavity anchors or, if possible, secure the brackets directly into the wall studs.

- Important: Check for electrical wiring and pipes inside the wall before drilling.
- Align the cabinet, then fasten the wall brackets as high as possible on the cabinet frame.
- Use at least two fastening points to minimize the risk of tipping.

Additionally, I advise distributing the fasteners across all connected components to prevent leverage effects.

Absolutely right! I once tried to fix something on an old drywall using just regular anchors – that was quite an experience 😅. So it’s better to go straight for the proper anchors, that way the cabinet stays where it belongs.

One more thing: installing with two people makes everything much easier, especially when holding and adjusting. And if, like me, you need a bit of fun while working, just add some music while screwing – it makes the whole process three times more relaxing!

Simply:

- Identify the wall type
- Use suitable wall anchors
- Align the cabinet
- Screw in the brackets
- Always use two fixing points
- Connect multiple cabinets together and secure them to the wall

Done.

I’m in a similar situation as you, Runekla – I was quite apprehensive about mounting the wall unit because I had no prior experience and didn’t want anything to go wrong. In short, I took my time and pre-marked all the screws in advance.

A tip from my own experience: When you lay the cabinet on its side to attach the brackets, make sure the back panel doesn’t get damaged. I was a bit unsure at first, but then used a blanket as a protective surface.

Also: Don’t forget the plastic caps for the screws that Ikea supplies – it just looks better and helps prevent injuries, especially for children.

That is understandable; wall mounting can cause uncertainties. Therefore, I always recommend knowing the exact weight of the cabinet and selecting screws accordingly with the right load capacity.

For example, with heavy Pax wardrobes filled with contents, the screw and wall plug should have sufficient load-bearing capacity – this information is usually indicated on the packaging of the fasteners. Better safe than sorry.
