Hello everyone, I’m currently facing the challenge of fitting Ikea Metod cabinets precisely as part of a renovation. The issue is that the walls are not perfectly straight and the room has slight angle deviations, which makes standard installation difficult.
My specific question is: How can I install Ikea Metod cabinets so they fit perfectly and don’t cause problems later, despite uneven walls and minor room measurement irregularities? Are there any techniques, special tools, or adjustments that have proven effective for mounting the cabinets accurately and securely, especially when the standard drill holes and fixing points don’t align exactly?
I look forward to practical tips and shared experiences!

I want to respond clearly and pragmatically here because this topic is often clouded by opinions and half-knowledge. Regarding the specific points:
- Spacers work well for small unevenness up to about 5mm (0.2 inches); they are simple and allow for some adjustment.
- Modifying drill holes is possible but increases the risk of material weakness at the fastening points.
- For larger deviations, a substructure is recommended, such as a flat battens wall that provides a level mounting surface.
- Flexible adhesives or sealants can be helpful as a supplement but do not replace a mechanically stable fastening.
- Important: Before installation, check all steps repeatedly with a spirit level and tape measure.
In short: Creating or compensating for the structure and then mounting carefully is the key.

For larger deviations, a substructure is recommended, such as a flat battens wall that provides a level mounting surface. This is also my approach. Most errors occur when trying to screw directly into uneven walls. A simple wooden batten as a substructure instantly solves many problems related to measuring and alignment. After that, the Metod modules can be mounted on this flat surface.
