Hello everyone, I am planning to transport several Ikea Pax wardrobes in the coming weeks and have some questions about safe handling during transport. Specifically, I would like to know the best way to prepare the wardrobes to prevent damage, what steps I should take when loading and securing them in the van or car, and if there are any special tools or aids that can make the transport safer. The wardrobes will be transported partly disassembled and partly fully assembled. My experience is limited, and I want to avoid technical mistakes that could lead to material damage or injuries. Who can provide helpful tips and detailed instructions on this?

Hello Cosmasla, I can offer you a structured approach that has proven effective for the safe transport of Ikea Pax wardrobes.

- Disassemble the wardrobes as much as possible to reduce weight and bulkiness. Individual parts like shelves, doors, and drawers should be packed separately.
- Use bubble wrap or blankets to protect delicate surfaces and edges. Glass or mirrored doors especially need good padding.
- When loading, place heavy and sturdy parts at the bottom and lighter ones on top. Plan for enough strong straps to secure the load inside the vehicle.
- Use ratchet straps or tie-down straps and attach them to solid anchor points in the van. Avoid loose items that could shift during transport.
- Tools like furniture lifts or carrying straps can make the transport easier and reduce the risk of injury.

If you need details on any specific steps, I’m happy to help.

It is best to completely disassemble the Pax. Pack all parts securely and fasten them with tie-down straps. Always carry with two people to avoid damage and injuries.

As an additional tip: When preparing Pax wardrobes for transport, be sure to store the screws and fittings separately and clearly labeled to ensure easy assembly later. I also recommend carefully removing the back panels and packing them separately, as they are very thin and prone to damage.

Pay attention to the load-bearing capacity of the individual parts. Large side panels should lie as flat as possible with their surface facing down to prevent warping.

If you transport the wardrobe without fully disassembling it, it is very important to secure the doors to prevent them from swinging open or rattling. You can use self-adhesive packing tape or special door wedges for this.

How do you plan to transport it? Will you use a van, a trailer, or a large private car? This can slightly affect the approach.

Thanks for asking. I will be using a rented small panel van (similar in size to a Sprinter) for transport, since I want to move several cabinets and other furniture as well. Some parts I will partially disassemble, while others only partly. I have already acquired a basic set of ratchet straps and will also use blankets and padding for protection. Still, I’m uncertain about how to properly load the large side panels and especially how to transport the cabinet frames without damage, if they remain fully assembled.

Would you recommend leaving them fully assembled or at least standing upright? How do you best wrap or cushion the narrow, long components to prevent them from hitting the load or the vehicle?

From my experience, I advise against transporting cabinet frames fully assembled, especially if they are longer than two meters (6.5 feet).

- Transport the large frame parts lying down to prevent tipping and resulting deformation or breakage.
- Place at least 5 cm (2 inches) of cushioning material between the frames and other cargo items, such as foam or blankets.
- Securing with tie-down straps is essential; avoid pressure points by using edge protectors.
- Make sure the parts do not rub against each other or vehicle walls to minimize damage to paint or MDF surfaces.

If the transport is not fully disassembled, it is also recommended to remove the doors beforehand or at least secure them with foam and tape. Glass fronts are particularly fragile.
