Hello everyone, I have a loose drawer in my IKEA Besta furniture, and I would like to know the best way to fix it. The drawer no longer sits properly in the track, it sometimes sticks or easily falls out, which affects normal use quite a bit. It looks like the slides are no longer fully stable or maybe some of the fasteners have come loose. I have already checked the screws but didn’t see any visible damage. Does anyone have experience with tightening or replacing drawer slides, or alternative solutions to make the drawer secure and smooth again? Thanks in advance for your tips!

First, check if the screws on the rail are tight and tighten them if necessary. Exactly, the mounting screws of the drawer slides are often the cause of loose drawers. To stabilize the guides, you should:
- Carefully inspect all screws and tighten them with a suitable screwdriver
- Check if the slides are warped, as this can make opening and closing difficult
- Examine the plastic inserts that facilitate sliding for any damage
- Replace the slides if they are severely damaged or worn
Applying a suitable lubricant like silicone spray can further reduce friction and improve movement. If most issues are caused by loose screws, simply tightening them is usually enough.
Please avoid using oil- or grease-based lubricants during the repair, as these attract dust and can cause wear over time.

Please note not to use oil- or grease-based lubricants during the repair, as they attract dust and can cause wear over time. This is an important tip! From my own experience, I also recommend removing the drawer completely and thoroughly cleaning the slides. Especially with Besta models, small particles and fibers often accumulate in the tracks, which can affect smooth movement.
Here’s how I proceed:
- Carefully pull out the drawer and set it aside
- Clean the tracks with a damp cloth (not wet)
- Check the drawer itself for cracks or wear, especially on the side panels
- If the drawer still doesn’t hold properly, inspect the plastic clips or locking mechanisms and replace them if necessary
Spare parts for Besta are relatively easy to obtain from IKEA if something is really broken. If needed, you can also request replacements through the IKEA service hotline. Ultimately, the repair also depends a bit on the age of the furniture and how heavily it has been used.
If you have photos or sketches of the construction, we can look more closely at specific components!
