NaipkenHello everyone,
I recently purchased some IKEA Platsa furniture and now I’m wondering which care products are best suited to maintain the surface properly without causing damage. The PLATSA series mainly consists of melamine-coated surfaces, right?
I’m particularly interested in which cleaning agents are recommended for daily use, which products should definitely be avoided (such as harsh cleaners or alcohol-based solutions), and whether there are specific care products that protect the surface or preserve its shine.
To be precise:
Which care products are ideal for cleaning and long-term maintenance of the IKEA PLATSA surfaces to keep them as scratch-free, clean, and undamaged as possible?
Thanks in advance for your experiences and advice!

- Avoid aggressive solvents such as alcohol, acetone, or chlorine-based cleaners, as these can damage the surface.
- For daily cleaning, a soft, damp cloth with a little mild dish soap is sufficient.
- To maintain shine, special furniture care wipes with a protective film can be used, although their effectiveness on heavily used areas is questionable.
- For stubborn stains, a soft sponge and mild cleaner are adequate.
In summary: gentle cleaning, no harsh chemicals.

Hello,
I’m happy to provide a more detailed explanation: PLATSA furniture is sturdy, but the melamine coating is sensitive to the wrong cleaning products.
For daily care, I recommend:
- Using a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth
- Cleaning with warm water and mild dish soap
- Wiping thoroughly to ensure no moisture remains
If you encounter grease or other stubborn stains, you can apply a small amount of denatured alcohol to a cloth, but always test it first in an inconspicuous area!
In general, please avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads, as well as harsh chemical cleaners.
There are no specific care products from IKEA for PLATSA, but furniture care wipes suitable for plastic or melamine surfaces are generally appropriate — make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions!

Also: No worries, PLATSA is quite durable, but a bit like a delicate garment – it’s better to treat it gently than to scrub with a brush. 😉
The most important thing for me is to wipe regularly before the dirt sets in firmly.
