I have a question about cleaning my matte IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet fronts. I’ve noticed that conventional cleaning products often cause discoloration or stains that are difficult to remove. Therefore, I would like to know the best way to clean matte fronts without causing unwanted discoloration. Are there specific cleaning agents or techniques that are particularly gentle yet effective against grease, fingerprints, and other dirt? I want to avoid dulling or staining the surfaces with harsh chemicals.
Thank you in advance for your tips!

I had good results with my Metod fronts using lukewarm water and a drop of dish soap. Use only a small amount, wipe gently, and then follow up with a damp, clean cloth to remove any residue. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners, as they can cause scratches or discoloration. Good luck!

Are there any specific cleaning products or methods that are especially gentle yet effective against grease, fingerprints, and other dirt?In general, matte IKEA Metod fronts have a melamine resin coating, which is fairly durable but sensitive to harsh cleaners. I recommend:
- Cleaning with a mild, pH-neutral detergent (e.g. dish soap) diluted with water
- Using microfiber cloths, as they are gentle and do not cause scratches
- Avoiding abrasive cleaners or alcohol-based products, as these can dull or discolor the surface
- Rinsing briefly with clean water and drying thoroughly to prevent water spots
Following these guidelines reduces the risk of discoloration or dull patches.
Hey, great question! 😊 I didn’t realize how sensitive the matte IKEA Metod fronts really are. I once used rubbing alcohol on a whim, and bam – ugly stains appeared. Since then, I only use warm water with dish soap and damp microfiber cloths. No discoloration, everything stays nice!
A little tip: occasionally care for them with furniture polish designed for matte surfaces; it refreshes and provides some protection.
