Hello everyone,

I am considering purchasing the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe for my bedroom. Since I organize my outfits there daily and occasionally hang up pants and jackets, I am interested in how long this piece of furniture typically lasts with regular, everyday use.

Perhaps someone here has practical experience regarding its durability or load-bearing capacity? I am especially interested in aspects like the stability of the hinges, the quality of the drawer slides, and the overall sturdiness over the years.

What are your assessments based on everyday use? Thanks for your feedback!

Hello golopo,

to give you a structured assessment, here is a brief overview of the durability of the Ikea Brimnes with daily use:

- Material: Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) with a melamine coating – resistant to moisture and light scratches, but not designed for heavy loads.
- Fittings: Metal hinges and plastic drawer slides. The drawer runners generally work well but can develop some play after frequent use.
- Assembly: Clean and stable assembly is essential. Uneven surfaces or incorrect screw placement noticeably reduce the lifespan.
- Usage: Daily opening and closing with normal loads (clothes, accessories) barely reduces the durability.

My advice: Check all screws and connections after one year and tighten them if necessary. Ensure protection against moisture once a year.

If you want to hang heavy jackets, you should observe the maximum load of the clothing rods (according to Ikea approximately 15kg (33 lbs)).

If you like, I can also provide tips on care and regular maintenance checks.

Are you planning to assemble the wardrobe yourself? Experience with assembly can be very important, especially because screws and joints need to be fitted correctly.

I also found that important. I had the Brimnes last year and initially had problems with the drawer runners during assembly; without some experience, it was a bit fiddly.

By now, I love the wardrobe, it feels solid and has met my expectations for durability.

Sometimes small noises when opening make me a bit nervous, but that is probably more about the installation and adjustment of the doors than the furniture itself.

Exactly that! But once you get it right, it’s really easy. If you stay focused during assembly and carefully organize all the parts... everything goes smoothly! 😎

And folks, don’t forget: never overload the drawers, or they’ll start squeaking eventually 😅.

I always enjoy being able to store my things neatly, and the wardrobe works great!

The Ikea Brimnes is made from medium-density fiberboard coated with melamine resin.

That's correct, this is standard for Ikea. The coating provides some protection, but you should still avoid placing the cabinet in damp areas!
