Hello everyone,

I am currently exploring interior finishing and have become particularly interested in the Brimnes furniture series from IKEA. However, I would like to understand how this series is specifically used in interior design. My questions mainly focus on the multifunctional usability of the Brimnes pieces: In which rooms are they typically found, how can the combination of cabinets, shelves, and dressers be arranged for optimal space utilization, and what should be considered regarding installation and stability?

I am looking for a comprehensive assessment of how IKEA Brimnes is used within the scope of living space design and interior finishing—not just as simple furniture, but as an integral part of a well-thought-out interior concept. I look forward to your experiences, tips, and opinions!

The Brimnes series is often used in bedrooms and small living spaces. Its cabinets and shelves are functional, provide ample storage, and are relatively easy to assemble. However, the components should always be secured to the wall to ensure stability.

Hello NOKUJA,

I can understand your question well. Brimnes is especially popular because its simple design offers many options for interior use. The series is typically used in bedrooms to save space while storing clothes, books, or smaller items. With different widths of dressers and cabinet units available, Brimnes can be easily adapted to rooms with limited space.

Furthermore, the series is also suitable for hallways or home office areas where a combination of storage and surface space is often needed. An important point during installation is that the furniture pieces, due to the carcass material – usually particleboard with a melamine coating – must be securely fixed to the wall with appropriate dowels and screws. This prevents tipping hazards, especially with taller cabinets.

In summary, interior builders benefit from Brimnes mainly because of its versatility and clean lines, which integrate well into a wide range of room concepts.

Hello,

As an addition: IKEA Brimnes is thoughtfully designed and, thanks to its modular construction, allows for flexible interior use. If you want to use this series for interior fitting, I recommend the following approach:

- Measure and plan the rooms carefully to arrange the appropriate building blocks (shelves, dressers, cupboards) ideally
- Pay close attention to proper assembly according to the instructions, especially securing the furniture to the wall using the included safety fittings
- For interior fitting, Brimnes components can often be used as bases for room dividers or as storage solutions in recesses
- The surfaces are easy to clean and have a modern, unobtrusive look due to their matte white lacquer finish

It is typical for interior fittings that Brimnes furniture is combined not only as individual pieces but as part of a set. This creates harmonious surfaces with high functionality that maximize living space without cluttering it.

I have had good experiences reinforcing the back panels of the furniture at specific points if they are to be used as room dividers – despite the moderate material thickness, this is possible.

I can confirm that. The backs of Brimnes furniture are often quite thin and alone do not provide enough stability for freestanding constructions. However, a simple reinforcement with battens or thicker panels can solve this. This way, for example, you can use Brimnes as cleverly placed room dividers in open-plan living spaces that also provide storage.

NOKUJA, to further clarify your question: The Brimnes series is also quite suitable for interior finishing, especially for use in guest rooms or small apartments. The dressers with drawers and integrated under-bed storage offer space-saving solutions in these cases.

Many interior designers also use Brimnes as an affordable alternative to complement custom-built solutions. The furniture stands out due to its classic design, which blends well with various styles. As already mentioned, wall mounting is essential. This not only prevents tipping but also provides stability under load.

One drawback is that the surfaces can be sensitive to water and heavy wear. For interior finishing, I would recommend applying additional protective measures such as cover plates or protective films in areas exposed to moisture.
