Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the redesign of my small kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and am focusing on the installation process. Since my space is very limited and the kitchen measures only about 6 square meters (65 square feet) in total, I am wondering if anyone here in the forum has practical tips or proven strategies on how to carry out the installation of the Metod cabinets as efficiently and space-saving as possible under such tight conditions.

I am especially interested in advice on the order of assembly, preparing the countertop, adjusting the doors and drawers, as well as securely anchoring the cabinets to the wall. If anyone has experience with avoiding common pitfalls or organizing tools effectively, I would also be very grateful. Thanks in advance for your support!

Hey bemaxie45,

wow, that sounds like an exciting project! Installing Metod cabinets in small kitchens can be quite tricky, but with a few tips, it’ll turn out great 😊

First: Start with the base cabinets and work your way up – this gives you space to work and makes it easier to align the cabinets.

Second: Use telescopic drawer slides; they take up less space and are very practical in small kitchens.

Third: Keep your tools organized! Small boxes or magnetic strips help you keep everything within reach without cluttering the space or blocking your work area.

And very important: Don’t be afraid to make adjustments! Sometimes you need to fine-tune or slightly modify small details, and that makes all the difference 😄 You’ve definitely got this!

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

This is a very practical tip.

In addition to the assembly sequence, I recommend the following points specifically for small kitchen spaces:

- Before assembly, pre-sort all fasteners and carefully read the instructions. This helps avoid time-consuming searching.
- In limited space, it is important to check the cabinets’ measurements precisely first. Minor deviations in walls or floors can cause problems later.
- To securely fix the cabinets to the wall, use appropriate anchors and screws suited to the wall type (e.g., concrete, drywall).
- For door adjustment, first hang all doors after assembly, then systematically use the adjustment mechanisms. This ensures a consistent overall appearance.
- It is best to install the countertop only after mounting the cabinets, allowing more flexibility to compensate for inaccuracies.

This structured approach saves time and reduces installation errors.

To answer your question more specifically, here is a brief step-by-step guide that I have successfully used several times in small kitchens:

- Step 1: Clear out the entire kitchen and carefully measure all relevant dimensions, especially door clearances and potential obstacles.

- Step 2: Sort all parts and components. This makes working faster and more efficient.

- Step 3: Start by installing the base cabinets, as they provide the foundation for the countertop. Make sure they are perfectly level—small unevenness can be adjusted with the leveling feet.

- Step 4: Temporarily anchor the base cabinets to the wall first, so you can remain flexible during alignment. Final fixation should be done after full installation.

- Step 5: Cut and install the countertop only after the base cabinets are fully assembled. Due to slight irregularities in the wall, installing it earlier might damage the material.

- Step 6: Next, hang the wall cabinets and systematically adjust all doors and drawers from left to right to ensure a consistent appearance.

- Tip: In small kitchens, it is often helpful to work with a second person, especially when mounting the wall cabinets.

I hope this helps!
