Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of correctly installing Ikea Metod kitchen doors with the soft-close function.

I have the metal fitting system, including the Hettich soft-close hinges for Metod and the corresponding mounting plates. However, I am unsure how to proceed to ensure the doors are properly aligned and the soft-close feature works optimally.

I am especially interested in the steps for correctly adjusting the hinges, how to mount the doors so they do not stick or hang too loosely, and what to consider regarding the soft-close settings. Tips for preparing the mounting surfaces would also be helpful, as my carcasses are made of MDF boards.

Does anyone have experience with this combination and can provide a detailed guide or useful advice so that I end up with a durable and functional system? Thanks in advance!

In short and concise terms:

- Pre-drill holes for MDF
- Attach mounting plates with millimeter precision
- Snap in hinges
- Use adjustment screws for a precise fit
- Adjust soft-close at the upper small screw

This is sufficient for a clean installation.

To complement the previous instructions, I would like to point out that when installing Ikea Metod doors with soft-close, a systematic approach should be followed:

- First, check the dimensional accuracy and squareness of the cabinet carcass.
- Use the original supplied mounting hardware, as their dimensions are precisely matched to the hinges.
- After attaching the mounting plates, verify that their positions are exact (tolerances of +/- 0.5 mm (0.02 inches) should be avoided).
- The doors are attached to the mounting plates using a click mechanism.
- Adjustment is then carried out as follows:
- Depth via the screw on the hinge arm
- Height via the screws on the mounting plate
- Horizontal alignment through the adjustment screw
- Regarding the soft-close: adjustment is made by turning the small screw on the hinge mechanism. Overturning it can damage the mechanism.

A structured, step-by-step workflow ensures the durability and proper function of the soft-close feature.

That’s correct. I would like to add: If you are unsure, always make very small adjustments to avoid overloading the mechanism. Also, after adjusting, the mounting plates should be retightened, as they can shift when tightening the screws.

You can adjust the door depth (how far it protrudes from the cabinet) using the screw on the hinge arm.

Exactly. For beginners: It’s helpful to initially attach the door loosely, then make fine adjustments, and finally tighten the screws securely.

If you can provide the exact model number of the hinges, I can also provide a brand-new manual specifically for those. How stable is your cabinet box in terms of dimensional stability? MDF tends to sometimes show slight warping.

Thank you for the detailed explanations! My hinges are the Hettich Metod Soft-Close 155°. The cabinet boxes are actually made from 18 mm (0.7 inch) MDF. At the moment, everything looks quite stable; the boxes show no visible deformation or signs of warping, but I will definitely pay close attention to pre-drilling and selecting the correct screws.

Besides adjustment, I am especially interested in whether the principles of the soft-close function in this updated model differ from conventional hinges, or if the fine-tuning operation is similar. I will pay particular attention to the cabinet boxes—that’s a helpful tip.

Are there any common installation mistakes for this model based on practical experience?
