Hello everyone, I am currently planning my modern kitchen and want to use Ikea Metod cabinets with sliding doors. My specific question is: How do I assemble the Metod carcasses and especially the sliding doors so that they operate smoothly and are stable? I have some experience with Ikea furniture, but I’m not very familiar with sliding doors for kitchen units, as they are mounted differently than regular hinged doors. I would also appreciate tips on modern kitchen design, particularly on how to combine storage space effectively with sliding doors without making it too complicated or compromising the overall look. Does anyone have experience or instructions on how to approach building the cabinet carcasses and sliding doors? Thanks for any advice!

Oh, that’s an interesting topic! I would say the key to the Metod sliding doors is definitely the precise adjustment of the runners. You can assemble the carcasses as usual, but take your time with the doors because the sliding doors need to be aligned very accurately to run smoothly.

- Tip: Before installing all components, make sure to check the floor with a spirit level.
- The runners are usually screwed to the top and bottom of the carcass, which provides stability.

And don’t worry if it’s not perfect on the first try, that’s normal. In the end, you can fine-tune the doors so they slide easily and quietly. If you want, I can put together a small checklist for the assembly.

The sliding doors in Ikea Metod cabinets actually work a bit differently. First, it’s crucial to assemble the cabinet carcasses perfectly square to ensure smooth operation. The tracks are usually divided into an upper and lower rail, with the lower one often using rollers.

Important:
- Before installing the doors, securely and evenly fasten all tracks according to the instructions.
- Mount the doors with a slight gap to allow enough clearance for movement.

Regarding modern kitchen design: For open kitchens, sliding doors have the advantage of saving space and making rooms feel more spacious.

I’m currently considering whether to choose sliding doors for my IKEA kitchen. I find your question very helpful because I want to know if the installation is more complicated compared to hinged doors. Especially when planning a kitchen, it makes a difference if you want to open the cabinets quickly or make the most of the storage space.

Don’t you also think that sliding door systems can sometimes be more prone to issues if the tracks don’t fit perfectly? I would appreciate it if someone could share their experiences on how well they hold up over time.

That sounds good, because I am a bit worried about mounting the doors either too loose or too tight.

Could you say more about how to best install the rollers here? Are they threaded in or screwed on? Are there any hidden traps to watch out for?

And JONKO, yes, that’s exactly what interests me as well: stability and durability in a compact space are important. If anyone has experience with sliding doors in the kitchen, that would be great!

The running tracks in the Metod system are screwed in, while the rollers are usually clipped or inserted. It is important that everything is aligned precisely; otherwise, the sliding can stick. Adjustment is done using small screws on the sliding door fittings.
