Hello everyone,

A few years ago, I bought an IKEA Brimnes dresser, and now I’m noticing that various parts show wear or damage from everyday use. Before I start ordering any replacement parts, I wanted to ask here in the forum: Which replacement parts do you consider the most important or most commonly needed for the Brimnes series?

I’m especially interested in:
- Which parts are most likely to break with frequent use?
- Are there replacement parts that are essential to keep on hand?
- Are there any differences between the dresser and bed versions of the series?

I want to purchase replacement parts as efficiently and specifically as possible to enjoy the furniture for a long time without ordering unnecessary parts. Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hello teotu,

your question about the most important replacement parts for the IKEA Brimnes series is really well formulated and very practical.

From my experience, the following replacement parts are particularly relevant:
- Drawer runners or slides, as these can wear out or break due to constant movement.
- Handles, because they can break or loosen with frequent use.
- Connectors, such as screws and dowels, which can loosen from the repeated opening and closing of the drawers.

I always recommend prioritizing the drawer slides or runners, as they are crucial for functionality. If the slides don’t move smoothly anymore, usability deteriorates significantly.

Having spare handles is also useful in case one breaks – usually, you can get originals directly from the furniture retailer.

If you have a Brimnes with a bed function, the fittings for fixing the slatted frame are also important, since these parts often experience heavier stress.

As an addition:

With the Brimnes series, the focus is indeed on the moving parts. I would also mention the plastic stoppers or buffers for the drawers, which prevent the drawers from being pulled out too far. These tend to break easily and then pose a risk of the drawer falling out completely.

Additionally, the side panels with the built-in drawer slides can sometimes be problematic if they are bent or damaged. Replacement parts are usually only available as a complete side panel, which can be somewhat inconvenient.

Therefore, I would say that spare parts for drawer slides, buffers, and handles are the most important, and it is always worth checking if the furniture can be handled more carefully to prevent the parts from being damaged in the first place.

Brief and to the point:

- Drawer runner rails are the most commonly needed replacement parts for IKEA Brimnes.
- Handles are more often visually damaged but are easy to replace.
- Furniture connectors and dowels fail less frequently but are also important.

A practical tip: If the rails no longer slide properly, they should not be repaired but fully replaced. The rails are usually available in sets.

Note: For beds in the Brimnes series, the metal brackets and screws around the slatted frames are critical replacement parts due to high stress in these areas.

Brimnes – the most important parts are actually:
- Drawer slides
- Replacement handles
- Plastic buffers on drawers

These are components that wear out or break quickly.

- Connectors, such as screws and dowels, which can loosen from continuous opening and closing of the drawers.

I agree with this and would like to add a few points.

The side rails on the dresser sides are often seamlessly connected to the carcass, so if damaged, the entire side panel needs to be replaced. This leads to higher costs. Careful handling and occasional checks to see if screws have loosened can help.

Regarding handles and bumpers:
- Handles are usually made of plastic or metal with a plastic coating, which can also break under heavy load.
- Plastic bumpers (usually small round elements on the underside of drawers) are important for cushioning when closing and prevent rattling; having a spare set is worthwhile.

Another weak point is the bottom supports in display cabinets or shelves in this series, as these can break easily if heavier loads are shifted.

What ultimately helps is regular maintenance of all moving parts and replacing smaller components before they completely fail.
