Hello everyone,
I am planning to get the Ikea Brimnes bed but am a bit unsure about how much time I should realistically allow for the complete assembly. I’m interested not only in the actual assembly time but also whether there are any preparatory tasks to consider in order to make the process as efficient as possible.
Has anyone had practical experience assembling the Brimnes bed? How long did it take you – ideally with information on whether you did it alone or with two people? Are there any common pitfalls or more difficult steps that require extra time? I just want to better estimate how much time I should set aside for assembly to avoid unnecessary stress on assembly day.
Thank you very much for your insights and tips!

I assembled the Brimnes bed myself a few months ago and am happy to share my experience in a structured way:
- Preparation: Take your time to sort all the parts first and carefully read through the included instructions. This will save you a lot of time during assembly.
- Assembly time: With two people, it took me about 90 minutes; alone, it was closer to 2 hours.
- Common pitfalls: Pay special attention to the headboard and footboard, as the connecting parts need to be properly aligned. It also helps to use the right screwdriver—preferably one with a ratchet function.
Clear recommendation: Make sure you have enough space, plan breaks, and definitely work with a partner, as this makes handling the large wooden parts much easier. This way, you can not only complete the assembly faster but also significantly reduce the risk of screws being misaligned or parts getting damaged.

I had a great time assembling the Brimnes together with my sister. It not only goes quickly, but you can also have some fun along the way.
You do need a bit of patience though – the instructions are clear, but sometimes the holes aren’t immediately obvious, or you need a bit of finesse when fitting the slatted frames together. If you’re assembling the bed alone, don’t rush and make sure to take a coffee break now and then. 😉
So: with good preparation and a little humor, you’ll be well prepared and the assembly will be a breeze!

- Check in advance that all parts and tools are available, including a Phillips and a flathead screwdriver.
- Sort the screws and components by size to avoid wasting time searching.
- Keep the instruction manual visible and accessible.
- Follow the instructions carefully, step by step.
The actual assembly time for two people is about 90 to 120 minutes, depending on their level of experience. Working alone can take around 2 to 2.5 hours.
A common challenge is correctly aligning the side panels. This is especially important when combined with storage elements (drawers), as careful work here helps avoid adjustments later on.
In summary, I recommend preparing well, ensuring enough space, and working as a team.
