Hello everyone, I currently have Ikea Metod kitchen doors installed and would like to easily retrofit them with soft-close dampers. Since the doors currently operate without this comfort feature, I’m particularly interested in how to install and fine-tune the soft-close fittings as simply as possible – without needing extensive tools, special skills, or lengthy disassembly. The goal is a practical, straightforward solution that is stable and durable and can be adjusted to achieve optimal closing noise and behavior. Does anyone have experience retrofitting soft-close on Metod doors? Are there any tips for installation and adjustment? Thank you in advance for your answers!

If all of this seems too fiddly, I can also recommend contacting Ikea’s service; they often have instructions and tips available. Thanks for the suggestion, GiRoyce. All the original hinges are still in good condition for me, so I think I’ll try attaching the soft-close modules first. However, I have considered buying completely new soft-close hinges, as that might be more durable. Does anyone have experience whether replacing the entire hinge is more advisable, or would the modular design be sufficient for smooth damping and long-lasting function?

If the original hinges show typical signs of wear or are slightly loose, a complete replacement is recommended, as this allows the mechanics and damping to work together smoothly.
The modular design is cost-effective and quick but only works with compatible hinges (usually clip-on). In the long term, there are no quality disadvantages as long as the hinges remain stable.

- Check if the existing hinges are clip-on type.
- If so, the soft-close module can be attached directly.
- Adjustment with the small screw on the damper is reliable and allows precise control of the closing speed.
- Doors must be perfectly aligned, otherwise the mechanism will jam.
If you follow these four points, you will be on the safe side. The only tools you need are a small Phillips screwdriver and possibly a square for alignment.

Hey, last year I upgraded my Metod doors with these soft-close modules and I’m really impressed!
They operate so much quieter and smoother.
I did it without much preparation, and adjusting them is actually very easy with the screw.
So, just go for it, give it a try – it’s definitely worth it! If you have any questions, feel free to ask! 🙂

However, the installation should still be carried out precisely to avoid mechanical stress. Especially with Metod systems, it’s advisable to pay attention to any seals around the hinge area, if present, to ensure the soft-close function is not affected.

A little patience pays off. Soft-close is very convenient, but like anything that moves and makes noise, everything has to fit perfectly. For me, it’s the perfect mix of fun and practicality!
