Is there a guide for assembling Ikea Besta without screws?

I am about to start a project assembling several BESTA units but currently don’t have the right screws on hand. I’m wondering if there is an official or alternative method to stabilize this modular furniture completely without screws.

I understand that screws usually play a central role in the construction, but I’m looking for instructions or at least a practical workaround to complete the assembly without screws.

Has anyone had experience with such alternative assemblies, perhaps using clamps, snap-fit systems, or other fasteners that ensure stability? I would appreciate a detailed explanation or a proven approach to assemble the BESTA cabinets permanently without the original screw method.

Wow, what an interesting question! 😀 I’ve always assembled BESTA the traditional way with screws, but I can imagine that with a few tricks and some creativity, it’s definitely possible to make it work!

For example, you could try using construction adhesive or strong double-sided tape to join some parts together. Or maybe there are hidden slot connections that can be better utilized. But without screws — that’s certainly a challenge, as stability can quickly be compromised.

My advice: don’t rely solely on the manual, but try small experiments using brackets, clamps, or wood glue. In the end, what matters is that everything holds steady and doesn’t wobble. Don’t get discouraged! You can do it! 👍

Hello Tanix!

Your question is certainly valid, as screws are indeed a key component in furniture like the BESTA series. Ikea often uses Minifix cam connectors, dowels, and screws for BESTA because they provide a secure and stable connection.

Officially, there is no Ikea instruction that allows assembly without screws. The screws help prevent the furniture from tipping over or coming apart, which is especially important for shelves or cabinets that will bear weight.

If you really want to avoid screws, you might consider using snap-fit connectors or special furniture fasteners available at hardware stores. However, stability is usually compromised with these alternatives.

I would recommend using the original parts if the absence of screws is only temporary, as other solutions might prove too unsafe over time. If you have any questions about the exact assembly of the individual parts, I’m happy to help!

That's exactly right. Without screws, the BESTA unit won't be stable.

If you don't have screws, either buy the appropriate ones or at least use wall plugs and brackets for added support. In my opinion, anything else is not a permanent solution.

Hey Tanix! That idea sounds like a fun DIY challenge with a wink! 😄

Off the top of my head, the BESTA units rely quite a bit on screws, but if you’re up for some tinkering: imagine using interlocking clamps or magnetic connectors, combined with wooden dowels and lots of patience.

Of course, this won’t fully replace screws, but with some clever tricks—like weather-resistant wood glue and pressure-resistant connection clips—you might be able to create a more stable snap-fit system.

Just a heads-up: your shelf might end up more like an art piece than a fully functional piece of furniture. Still, if you enjoy experimenting, feel free to give my suggestions a try. And let us know how it turns out! 😎
