ᐅ How do I adjust IKEA BESTA doors so they close perfectly and evenly?

Hello everyone, I have an issue with my IKEA Besta doors. The doors don’t close perfectly and appear uneven – in some places there is a gap, while in others they press too tightly. I know the doors can be adjusted, but I find the manual a bit confusing.

Could someone please explain in detail the exact steps needed to adjust the doors so they close completely evenly and cleanly? I would like to know which screws to turn, in which directions, and if there are any special points to keep in mind to ensure the doors neither stick nor sit too loosely.

Thank you very much in advance!

I would like to add that the hinges of IKEA BESTA doors can have soft-close dampers. If your doors are equipped with these dampers, you should check before adjustment whether the dampers are properly engaged, as they influence the closing force.

I would like to disagree, at least partially. The dampers primarily do not affect the closing force, but rather the closing motion. An adjustment mainly concerns the mechanical positioning and gap alignment. While the dampers can be an obstacle during adjustment, they should be considered separately.

It is also important to note that irregularities in the furniture itself are often underestimated. A general adjustment of the hinges cannot always solve the problem.

One more tip for fine adjustment: Use a screwdriver with a well-fitting bit to avoid damaging the screws.

For even gaps, especially with several doors next to each other, a small spacer inserted temporarily can help set all doors to the same width.

Sometimes it also helps to open and close the doors fully several times to "break in" the dampers.

A reminder: When adjusting the doors, it is best to have two people working on it, especially if the doors are heavy.

One person holds the door in position while the other tightens the screws. This prevents injuries and makes the adjustment much easier.

If you notice that, even after multiple adjustments, the door still does not hang properly, it could also be due to a warped frame or incorrect installation of the cabinet body. This should also be ruled out.

Make sure that the hinges and screws are clean and that no dust or dirt is caught between the hinge and the door. This can significantly affect the closing function.

The material itself can also settle slightly after some use. In such cases, readjusting after a few weeks often helps.

Great tip, this is often underestimated! And if you are on your own: Carefully place the door down on blankets or cloths to avoid damaging the surface.

To me, this is part of worry-free adjustment – neat and safe! 😉

Summary for Adjusting IKEA Besta Doors:

- Screw 1: Adjust height
- Screw 2: Adjust horizontal alignment
- Screw 3: Adjust depth

Make small adjustments gradually and test the door regularly. When working with multiple doors, compare the gaps and adjust evenly.
