Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to get an IKEA Besta as a TV stand and would like to assess the stability of this furniture series more closely before making a purchase. My main question is: How stable is the IKEA Besta as a TV stand, especially when placing a larger TV of around 55 to 65 inches and several media devices such as receivers or game consoles on it?
I am interested in whether the Besta’s construction is designed to handle such loads, how it performs in everyday use, and if there are any known weak points I should be aware of. Tips on optimal assembly or additional measures to improve stability would also be very helpful.
Looking forward to your experiences and insights!

Hey ninau9!
I can share my own experience: the IKEA BESTA is really a great TV stand! I’ve had it for over a year now and use it with a 65-inch TV plus several devices. 👍
The stability is quite impressive, especially if you assemble everything correctly and firmly screw on the back panel. For me, everything is solid—no wobbling or anything like that! 😄
However, I would recommend aligning the furniture parts carefully and, above all, using all the supplied dowels and screws completely and properly. If you want extra stability, you can also follow IKEA’s wall anchoring recommendations for added safety.
Don’t underestimate the possibility of distributing the weight across several compartments and placing heavier devices rather low or in the middle.
So, in my opinion, you can be pretty confident if you work precisely. Good luck with the assembly!

To assess how stable the IKEA BESTA is as a TV stand given your requirements, here are some factual points:
- The BESTA series is made of MDF panels with a foil or melamine surface. According to the manufacturer, the load capacity of a single unit is around 30 kilograms (66 pounds), which is sufficient for larger TVs and media devices.
- Stability largely depends on the quality of assembly: all connections must be done strictly according to the instructions, especially the back panel and the screws.
- For larger TVs, I recommend combining multiple units or reinforcing with additional support legs / wall mounting.
- Weak points often appear under heavy load and improper assembly, for example, if screws are not fully tightened or connections are not staggered.
- Additionally, stability can be improved by reinforcing the back panel or adding floor protectors for better footing.
These facts should provide helpful guidance.

The stability is really impressive, especially when everything is assembled correctly and the back panel is securely screwed in.I agree with this, with some reservations. It is important to note that the universally praised stability of the IKEA BESTA does not apply unconditionally. There are no load tests for different configurations, which can be problematic, especially with larger televisions.

According to the manufacturer, the load capacity of a single unit is about 30 kilograms, which is sufficient for larger TVs and media devices. This information is accurate, but caution is advised when TV sets and accessories approach the upper limit. Weak points can develop with regular load changes, which is quite possible in everyday use.
My recommendation is therefore: do not underestimate the necessity of wall mounting. Even if you believe the BESTA stands stably on its own, I consider wall anchoring essential for safety and long-term durability. Additionally, I would like to know if anyone here has long-term experience regarding durability under varying loads?
Relying solely on assembly instructions and manufacturer specifications can be misleading, especially since IKEA tends to offer furniture designed for moderate loads rather than heavy weights.
