Sieur38Hello everyone,
I plan to securely and permanently attach my IKEA Brimnes wardrobe to the wall. Although the IKEA assembly kit includes dowels and brackets, I want to ensure the mounting is stable and minimizes the risk of tipping.
I have a few questions where I would appreciate your experience and advice:
- Which type of anchors and screws are best depending on the wall type (e.g., concrete, drywall, brick)?
- How many mounting points should be used at a minimum?
- Are there any special tips for properly aligning the wardrobe and making it tip-resistant?
- Should additional precautions be taken, especially if there are children in the household?
I look forward to your knowledgeable answers and any advice on mistakes to avoid. Thank you in advance!

For concrete walls, use standard anchors and screws; for drywall, always use hollow wall anchors. Use at least two attachment points, at the top left and right. Position the cabinet upright and level it with a spirit level. Definitely secure it if children are present to prevent tipping.

Definitely secure it when children are around to prevent tipping.I agree, which is why I want to make the fastening as secure as possible.

When in doubt, better to use heavy-duty anchors.Could you please provide a specific recommendation for heavy-duty anchors suitable for brick walls? The cabinet will be quite heavy when fully loaded. Thanks!
For brick walls, Fischer anchors or comparable heavy-duty anchors are very suitable. It is best to choose screws with a diameter of at least 6 mm (0.24 inches). Using more fasteners never hurts; depending on the size of the cabinet, feel free to use 3 or 4 mounting points.
Here are some tips and a guide summarized:
- Check the walls: First determine if they are concrete, brick, or drywall. For drywall, always use hollow wall anchors; for solid walls, use stainless steel or nylon anchors.
- Choose the right anchors: For brick, I recommend Fischer UX or Fischer S, as they have very good ratings for load capacity.
- Number of mounting points: At least 2 at the top corners, but 3 or 4 is better depending on the width of the shelf unit (it is about 120cm (47 inches) wide).
- Drill holes correctly: Use a drill bit with the appropriate diameter and drill cleanly so the anchor holds well.
- Position the cabinet and use a level to ensure it’s not crooked.
- Fixing the brackets: Tighten the screws firmly, but avoid over-tightening.
A common mistake is using only one attachment point, which increases the risk of tipping over.
Additionally: If there are small children in the house, it is advisable to use anti-tip safety devices that connect the furniture to the wall.
