Hello everyone,

I recently bought some Ikea Platsa furniture and am looking for the best way to clean it gently. It is important to me that the surface of the furniture is not damaged or left looking dull after cleaning. Since Platsa furniture can have different surface finishes, I would especially like to know which cleaning agents and methods are suitable for removing dirt and fingerprints without harming or discoloring the surface.

Are there any specific recommendations for surface treatment, for example on the white or coated finishes? And what about cleaning the doors and drawers?

I look forward to your tested tips and advice!

Hey cyprianga,

This is a really important question! Nobody wants to damage their stylish PLATSA or ruin it with the wrong cleaning agents. My recommendation is to start with a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water – this usually removes a lot of dirt while being gentle on the surface.

For the white or coated surfaces, I would advise against using aggressive cleaners, especially no abrasive agents or solvents – these can quickly cause dullness or staining. A mild dish soap added to water is perfectly fine, and you can also try specialized products for laminate or plastic, but always test first on an inconspicuous area.

Good luck with the cleaning – with the right care, PLATSA looks almost like new! 😊

Hello everyone!

Here is a brief guide on cleaning the Ikea PLATSA units:

- Preparation: First, remove dust as much as possible using a dry microfiber cloth. This prevents scratches when cleaning with moisture.
- Cleaning agents: Use warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap. Avoid harsh cleaners, abrasive sponges, or solvents.
- Technique: Lightly dampen the microfiber cloth—never soaking wet. Gently wipe the surface and immediately dry with a soft, dry cloth.
- Stubborn stains: If stains do not come off, try carefully with a mild soap solution or special furniture cleaners for plastic surfaces, but always test first in an inconspicuous area.

It is important not to use sharp objects or rough cloths because the surface of the units is usually a plastic coating that can be easily damaged.

Summary: Mild cleaner + soft cloth + gentle technique = long-lasting enjoyment of your PLATSA furniture!

I hope this helps you out.

Hello cyprianga,

I would like to add that you should also follow the manufacturer’s instructions from Ikea. For PLATSA furniture, Ikea generally recommends using mild cleaning agents, as already mentioned.

This is really important because PLATSA often has a melamine surface, which can be sensitive to strong chemicals. I would also advise against using furniture polishes or waxes, as they can leave residues that make the surface feel greasy or look unattractive.

What I have made a habit of doing:
- After cleaning with a damp cloth, always use a clean, dry microfiber cloth
- I wipe fingerprints as often as possible with a slightly damp cloth before they dry

If your furniture is in a room with high humidity, you should also make sure the furniture dries well to avoid possible surface damage.

Good luck with cleaning!

A small addition, because it happened to me once: please avoid using window cleaners or other cleaning products containing alcohol on the PLATSA surface.

Absolutely, that usually results in a sticky film that’s hard to remove. And yes, a slightly damp microfiber cloth is your best friend here – not too wet, not too dry, just right.

If you ever have something stubborn like adhesive residue on the surfaces, instead of harsh chemical cleaners, use a little oil (for example, baby oil) and let it soak in slowly, then gently wipe off. This protects the finish; cleaning isn’t just about making it look clean, but about keeping the furniture looking good in the long run.
