Hello community, I have a Malm furniture set made of light wood and want to clean it as streak-free as possible. My main concern is to avoid dulling or spotting the surface and to prevent unpleasant water marks. Which cleaning products or home remedies work best to clean Malm furniture without leaving streaks? Additionally, I would be interested to know the best method – for example, what type of cloth to use and in which direction to clean – to achieve a truly flawless result. Thank you very much for your tips!

For optimal cleaning of Malm furniture, use a microfiber cloth, as it does not leave lint and effectively picks up dirt without damaging the surface. I recommend a cleaner made from a mixture of mild dish soap and warm water; it is important that the cloth is only slightly damp, as too much moisture can cause water stains. After cleaning, dry the surface immediately with a clean, dry cloth, wiping in the direction of the grain to avoid streaks.

In short: microfiber cloth + mild cleaning solution + wipe dry immediately.

P.S.: Avoid harsh cleaners or abrasive pads, as they could damage the finish.

Absolutely important, thanks for emphasizing that again! I usually do it like this: a splash of glass cleaner (preferably alcohol-free) in the water, then wipe with a soft cloth. Afterwards, dry immediately and voilà – streak-free and fresh.

A little tip from me: use a slightly damp black microfiber cloth, since dirt residues are easier to see on black than on white. That way, you can quickly tell if you need to wipe again 🙂

By the way, for those who like it simple: avoid using newspaper! It might work for windows, but with wood, it can quickly become frustrating.

Regarding the method: Always start with a dry microfiber cloth to remove dust. For damp cleaning, prepare a bucket of lukewarm water with a mild pH-neutral dish soap. The cloth should be damp, not wet. Wipe in the direction of the wood grain to ensure even light reflection later and to avoid streaks.

It is important never to use circular motions, as these can intensify stains.

After wiping the surface, use a second, dry and clean microfiber cloth to absorb any remaining moisture. This is especially important for light-colored finishes on Malm furniture, where any leftover water or cleaning agent is clearly visible.

Optionally, a special care oil or furniture wax may be applied afterward to protect the surface. Make sure to apply and work it in without leaving any residue, as buildup can quickly cause visible streaks.
