Hello everyone, I have a question that has been on my mind for some time and hope to get some helpful advice here: Which colors work particularly well with Ikea Besta furniture in small rooms?

I plan to furnish my small room with a Besta shelving unit and want to coordinate the wall colors and possibly other furniture pieces accordingly. It is important to me that the room does not feel cluttered or cramped.

I know that light colors make spaces appear larger, but are there specific shades you would recommend? And how about accent colors that complement the white or anthracite of the Besta elements?

I would really appreciate concrete color suggestions or any tips on combinations.

For Besta furniture in small rooms, light, neutral colors such as off-white, light gray, or beige work really well. These light tones visually open up the space and complement almost any Besta color.

Hello ralffu,

I think your question is very good and important, especially since colors play a crucial role in small rooms. Ikea Besta is often available in white, black, or anthracite. For small spaces, I usually recommend a combination of subtle wall colors with contrasting cheerful accents:

- Wall colors: Soft gray tones, warm beige shades, or even a delicate pastel blue create a calm atmosphere and make the room feel more open.
- Accents: Small pops of color in mustard yellow, turquoise, or peach can bring the overall look to life.

The light source is also important, as cool lighting often makes colors appear colder, while warm lighting can create a cozy atmosphere.

I agree with that – and I’d casually add that a small pop of color in coral or mint green can really make a difference. It keeps the room bright while adding character. Maybe a cushion or a small shelf? 😉

If the Besta furniture is white, almost all light shades will match. For anthracite, lighter gray or soft pastel colors work better. Bright or intense colors can quickly feel overwhelming.

I would like to add that when coordinating, you should consider whether your Besta shelving unit has glossy or matte fronts. Glossy surfaces reflect more light and work especially well with cool colors. Matte fronts pair nicely with warm tones and natural materials like wood finishes.
