beytulla692 Dec 2022 09:17Hello everyone,
I want to mount my Ikea Metod wall cabinets on a solid wall, but I’m not yet fully familiar with the correct procedure. My walls are made of solid concrete, and I want to make sure the cabinets are firmly and safely secured, especially considering the weight when they are fully loaded. Which anchors or screws are best suited for this type of wall? Are there any specific installation guidelines for securely attaching Metod wall cabinets to solid concrete walls?
I look forward to tips on preparation, choosing the right mounting hardware, and the actual installation. Thanks in advance!

Hey beytulla69,
your question is very precise, I like that! For concrete walls, I would always recommend heavy-duty anchors – preferably so-called heavy-duty anchors or bolt anchors. They hold really well, nothing will wobble. Important: Always use a hammer drill to pre-drill and remove dust from the holes beforehand.
My tip: Before purchasing the mounting hardware, carefully check the drill hole size and screw size in the installation instructions for the Metod cabinets. Better safe than sorry! Don’t just hang the cabinets by themselves; rely on the supplied mounting rails and hooks as well.
And yes, a small tip on the side: When positioning the cabinet, align it beforehand and preferably work with two people to avoid damage and frustration. 🚀

Hello beytulla69,
I’ll add a brief step-by-step guide on how to securely and stably mount your Ikea Metod wall cabinets to a concrete wall:
- First: Determine the exact position and alignment of the cabinets, preferably using a spirit level.
- Drill holes in the concrete with a suitable hammer drill bit (usually 8 mm (0.3 inches)). It is important to drill deep enough so that the anchor fully sits inside the material.
- Use heavy-duty anchors (e.g., metal expansion anchors or chemical anchors) – these have a high load capacity.
- Install the anchors correctly. For chemical anchors, you first need to clean the hole and then inject the adhesive using a cartridge.
- Attach the cabinet brackets with screws that fit the size of the anchors.
- Hang the cabinets on the brackets and check that everything is securely fixed.
Common mistake: placing anchors too close to the edge or using anchors that are too small. Ikea’s assembly instructions specify the screw length in general, but usually longer screws are required for concrete walls.
Good luck!

A technical supplement:
For mounting Ikea Metod wall cabinets on solid concrete walls, it is recommended to use metal expansion anchors or heavy-duty anchor bolts with a minimum diameter of 8 mm (5/16 inches).
The drill hole depth should be at least 60 mm (2 3/8 inches) to ensure sufficient grip. Use a rotary hammer with an appropriate concrete drill bit for clean holes.
The screw length is also crucial – it must exceed the anchor length plus the thickness of the cabinet mounting rail plus an additional allowance of about 20 mm (3/4 inches).
Tips: After drilling, clean out the hole thoroughly (if possible, with compressed air) to remove dust, as this significantly improves holding strength.
Preferably use screws with hex head or hex socket to ensure secure tightening.
This ensures a durable, load-bearing fastening.

For everyone who wants not only a stable but also a tidy job: I recommend checking the wiring behind the wall before drilling. Simply use a cable detector to be on the safe side.
Oh, and recently it worked perfectly for me by adding a second mounting rail – it provides extra stability and prevents the cabinets from tipping when you load them up properly. 😎

It’s important to drill deep enough so the anchor is fully embedded in the material.Do you have a specific depth recommendation to keep in mind when using, for example, 8mm (0.3 inch) anchors? Ikea doesn’t really provide a precise guideline.
And another question about installation: The Metod wall cabinets have that mounting rail – is it better to screw each cabinet directly to the wall individually, or to mount the rail on the wall first and then hang the cabinets on it?
