LilysarHello everyone,
I am currently planning new Ikea Platsa furniture and have a somewhat technical question: Do the Platsa cabinets from Ikea come with drawer slides or extension mechanisms that feature a soft-close function?
It is important for me to know whether Ikea already includes dampers in the drawers as a standard feature or if this option is only available through special retrofit solutions. Basically, I would like to avoid drawers being slammed shut, as that can become annoying over time and cause material wear.
Does anyone have practical experience or official information from the manufacturer? I am also interested in whether such soft-close slides can be easily retrofitted to Platsa furniture if they are not installed as standard.
Thanks in advance for your expertise!

Are there drawer slides or pull-out mechanisms with a soft-close function available for the Platsa cabinets from Ikea?Ikea does not equip the Platsa cabinets with soft-close slides as standard. However, it is possible to retrofit compatible soft-close drawer slides from third-party suppliers.
As an addition:
Ikea uses traditional mechanical roller or ball-bearing drawer slides in the Platsa furniture systems without integrated soft-close functionality. Soft-close is generally not included in many Ikea series unless explicitly stated in the product description.
Retrofitting soft-close drawer slides is technically possible, but the following points should be considered:
- Dimensions and mounting points may differ from the original slides, which could require modifications to the furniture
- The load capacity of the new slides must be suitable for the intended use
- There are different types of soft-close mechanisms, such as dampened slides versus separately attached dampers
I recommend measuring carefully before purchase and choosing solutions specifically designed for Ikea Platsa or similar dimensions to avoid extensive modifications.

Ikea does not include soft-close slides as standard with Platsa. That is correct, as gadalu has already explained.
Additionally, I can say that while Ikea offers soft-close features in some other furniture lines like Metod or Faktum, it is not available for Platsa. For users who value this feature, upgrading with special retrofit solutions is a practical approach. It is advisable to choose components that can be installed with minimal effort to avoid impacting the original structure.
Therefore, if you do not want to give up soft-close, the best option is either to purchase new slides with damping or to modify the furniture using aftermarket products.
