Hello everyone, I am currently working on a project to assemble several Ikea Metod cabinets with recessed handles. The instructions are quite good, but I find the installation of the fronts with recessed handles a bit tricky. I’m especially interested in tips on how to do this easily and neatly, without risking issues with alignment later or even damaging the recessed handles. Do you have recommendations for tools, methods, or important points I should pay close attention to? I’m also curious if there are any hacks that make assembling frame fronts easier compared to standard handle elements. Thanks in advance!

Hello Treypa, very good and detailed question! For Metod cabinets with recessed handles, two things are especially important: precision and the right tools. I recommend doing a test assembly of all parts before the final assembly to check the fit. For the recessed handles, it’s important to attach the fronts only after assembling the carcass, so you can later adjust the alignment optimally. To make it easier, a cordless drill with torque control helps so you don’t overtighten the screws. For adjusting the fronts: use the adjustment options on the hinges, which allow movement in three directions. Very important: always work on a stable surface and avoid tilting the fronts while tightening the screws. If you want, I can also share a small trick for aligning the recessed handles.

Yes, that would be great! I've often had problems with recessed handles not sitting perfectly straight or shifting. Looking forward to your tip.

Gladly! For the recessed handles, I recommend the following trick: Before attaching the fronts, mark the exact position of the handle recess on the cabinet body with a narrow masking tape, so you have a visual guide later. Attach the fronts loosely at first with a few screws, then align the recessed handles precisely along this line. After that, you can evenly tighten the screws. This prevents the handle recess from shifting while tightening. Additionally, I would use adhesive pads between the recessed handle and the wood to dampen small vibrations when opening. It is also important not to overtighten the screws to avoid damaging the material.

First, fully assemble the cabinet carcass. Then, attach the front panels only loosely. Use tape to position and align the recessed handles before firmly screwing them in place. Use a cordless screwdriver with torque control to avoid overtightening. Done.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say: Metod cabinets with recessed handles are really great once you get the hang of them! 🙂 My tip: Stay patient and calm, then everything goes smoothly. Don’t hesitate to use a spirit level and have a helper assist with leveling! I watched a short YouTube video that helped me a lot. Definitely prepare and plan everything on the floor first—that makes assembly a lot more fun! Good luck to you all!!
