DanklaHello everyone, I have a problem with my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet doors. Some of the door hinges are loose, and others are even partially broken. Iâm interested in how to best repair these hinges without having to remove the entire doors or buy new hinges right away. Is there a way to tighten the screwed-on hinges again, maybe by replacing screws, using wall anchors, or other tricks? And how can I most reliably replace or repair broken hinges without the door wobbling or closing poorly afterwards? I am especially interested in whether Ikea offers specific replacement parts and how to obtain them in the easiest way. Thanks in advance for your advice!
For repairing loose or broken Ikea Metod door hinges, I recommend a systematic approach. First of all: screws often become loose because the material in the cabinet or the door surface is distorted or worn out. The standard solution is to remove the old screws and replace them with stronger screws or special furniture anchors.
You can also use so-called wood repair kits that fill the holes with wood filler or wooden dowels. Afterwards, the hinges should be reattached with new screws.
If the hinge itself is broken, Ikea usually offers replacement hinges sold individually. Simply note the exact model number and inquire at Ikea or a retailer.
I advise against using makeshift solutions with glue or similar, as the doors need to be securely and durably fastened. When in doubt, replacing defective parts is more sustainable than patchwork.

- If the screws loosen because the wood has swollen or become worn out, causing the threads to no longer hold, I suggest the following steps:
- Remove the screws completely
- Fill the hole with wood glue and small wooden dowels or toothpicks, then let it dry firmly
- Afterwards, reattach with new screws
- Alternatively, you can use furniture dowels (plastic or metal) for the fixing. These provide a stable hold.
- For broken hinges: The standard model for Metod is the "Grundtal" hinge set. Ikea sells these individually; installation is done with three screws on the door and two on the cabinet frame.
- Ideally, use a cordless screwdriver with a torque limiter for installation to prevent damage to the screws.
- For severely damaged holes in the cabinet frame, anchoring with larger dowels or drilling a new hole with a suitable drill bit often helps.
I am interested to know: What exact type of defect is present? Loose screws, torn-out holes in the wood, broken hinge bases? This would make finding the right solution easier.

I am interested: What exactly is the type of defect? Loose screws, torn holes in the wood, broken hinge bases? Thanks for asking! In my case, it is mainly the screws on the furniture side that have become loose, causing the hinge to be somewhat wobbly. For one door, the hinge actually broke at the baseâso not just loose, but the metal piece attached to the inside of the door has snapped. The door isnât completely loose but can noticeably move and sometimes gets stuck when closing. The holes in the cabinet body itself look intact as far as I can tell, but the screws no longer hold properly. So it seems to be more material fatigue on the door side and worn screw holes on the door causing the problem.
The idea of using dowels or wood glue plus toothpicks sounds interesting; I might try that. If anyone has a tip for a suitable replacement for the broken hinge, I would also appreciate it, especially regarding where to order it from Ikea.

Here is the procedure:
- Remove the old screws
- Fill the hole with wooden dowels and wood glue, or repair it using a special wood filler. The wooden dowels can be made from multiple toothpicks, small wooden sticks, or dowel pins.
- After the material has fully cured (possibly let it dry for several hours), drill a new, slightly smaller hole (about 3-4mm (0.12-0.16 inches) in diameter) and use new screws.
For the broken hinge, you should indeed get an original replacement part. Ikea has been selling hinges individually for some time. The Metod series usually uses cabinet hinges of the âGrundtalâ type.
Also, make sure to realign the doors after the repair. Ikea hinges often have adjustment screws for height, depth, and lateral positioning.
These are simple tasks but important for long-term functionality and appearance.
