Hello everyone, I am considering how to best use the Ikea PAX system for home office purposes. Specifically, I want to create storage space for office supplies, documents, and technology in a practical way that doesn’t feel bulky or inconvenient.
I am thinking of a combination of shelving units, drawers, and possibly integrated cable management solutions. Has anyone had experience adapting PAX not just as a traditional wardrobe, but as a functional, well-organized workspace? I am especially interested in how to combine PAX elements effectively with a desk and which interior fittings work best for this. Also, whether the materials and load-bearing capacities are truly suitable for home office use.
Looking forward to your tips and practical experiences!

I wonder if PAX, as a traditional wardrobe concept, is really the best solution for a home office. Visually, it often appears bulky; perhaps more modular systems are better suited. Additionally, the space requirements should be considered: a desk with integrated storage or a compromise between a sideboard and a work surface might be more efficient. Has anyone here made any comparisons?

I still lean towards PAX because it is sturdy and affordable, and remains flexible thanks to many interior fittings. Although it is somewhat bulky, I can place the units in niches and hopefully create an open, airy design with shelves and drawers. If anyone has a clever solution for narrow spaces, I would really appreciate it.
I am currently experimenting with PAX by using smaller drawer inserts alongside conventional shelves to organize office supplies. I have also placed some items in baskets that are labeled digitally (paper notes 😂).
One challenge for me is integrating technology, especially cables. I try to hide these behind the side panels using cable ties and flexible conduits.
