Hello everyone, I am considering how to best use the Ikea PAX system for home office purposes. Specifically, I want to create storage space for office supplies, documents, and technology in a practical way that doesn’t feel bulky or inconvenient.

I am thinking of a combination of shelving units, drawers, and possibly integrated cable management solutions. Has anyone had experience adapting PAX not just as a traditional wardrobe, but as a functional, well-organized workspace? I am especially interested in how to combine PAX elements effectively with a desk and which interior fittings work best for this. Also, whether the materials and load-bearing capacities are truly suitable for home office use.

Looking forward to your tips and practical experiences!

The Pax system is stable enough for office use. Pay attention to the maximum load, especially for drawers. It’s better to have desks separately, as PAX is primarily designed for vertical storage. You can manage cables inside using cable clips and channels.

I wonder if PAX, as a traditional wardrobe concept, is really the best solution for a home office. Visually, it often appears bulky; perhaps more modular systems are better suited. Additionally, the space requirements should be considered: a desk with integrated storage or a compromise between a sideboard and a work surface might be more efficient. Has anyone here made any comparisons?

Good point. I still lean towards PAX because it is sturdy and affordable, and remains flexible thanks to many interior fittings. Although it is somewhat bulky, I can place the units in niches and hopefully create an open, airy design with shelves and drawers. If anyone has a clever solution for narrow spaces, I would really appreciate it.

In small rooms, PAX combinations with sliding doors are especially practical. You save space when opening them. Flexible drawers and vertical file holders inside make organization easier. For the table, I recommend simple, separate tabletops with legs.

I am currently experimenting with PAX by using smaller drawer inserts alongside conventional shelves to organize office supplies. I have also placed some items in baskets that are labeled digitally (paper notes 😂).

One challenge for me is integrating technology, especially cables. I try to hide these behind the side panels using cable ties and flexible conduits.

Been there too! Just drill a hole in the back panel and feed the cables through. Then secure them inside with Velcro straps or cable clips – it doesn’t make the cabinet high-tech, but it definitely keeps things tidy! 🎉
