pubumoHello everyone,
I am currently planning a new setup with the IKEA Platsa system and wondering if there are LED light strips that can be easily and conveniently integrated directly into the Platsa modules. It is important for me to find a solution that is either a perfect fit or at least compatible without requiring much modification or special adapters. I am mainly looking for a clean, discreet installation that fits either inside the cabinets or can be integrated into the edge trims.
Can you give me any advice on products that work well? Are there any recommendations for specific LED strips with suitable mounting options or lengths that match the Platsa system? If you also have experience with the electrical connection, such as how to best connect them to existing outlets or switches, that would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance!

Regarding your question: “Are there LED light strips that can be easily integrated into IKEA Platsa?” – there are indeed a few commonly recommended solutions because they fit well within the Platsa cabinet dimensions and can be installed neatly with minimal effort.
I have worked on projects similar to yours, and here are some points to consider:
- Dimensions of the strips: IKEA Platsa typically has modular dimensions. Many LED strips come in standardized lengths (1 meter (3.3 feet), 2 meters (6.6 feet), etc.). Usually, trimming or extending is necessary. Some LED strips feature plug connectors that allow easy cutting and extension.
- Attachment: Some LED strips come with 3M adhesive tape on the back, which works perfectly on smooth Platsa surfaces. Others also offer small clips or rails for mounting.
- Electrical connection: Make sure to choose an LED strip with a power supply that can be plugged into a socket or operated via USB or battery if no outlet is nearby.
One option I recommend is flexible LED strips with a fixed 12V power supply. You can stick these behind the shelves or at the top inside the cabinet, keeping them out of sight. If you want a wireless or switchable version, there are compatible systems with remote control or smart controls available.
I can also share some specific brands if you are interested.

Hey pubumo!
That’s a really great question because Platsa has such a clean look, and nothing is more annoying than visible cables or bulky lighting, right? 😄
This is exactly where flexible silicone LED strips are super useful – you can easily stick them into corners, and the thin cables almost disappear on their own. I once got some from a hardware store, and they’re really easy to cut if you want to shorten them. Important: The dimmable ones are great fun if you want to adjust the lighting in the evenings.
There are also smart options nowadays that you can control via an app — then you can even change the colors. Doesn’t that make it a bit more enjoyable? 😉
Just a thought: maybe consider how much flexibility you want in case you want to rearrange or expand the modules later. In that case, a modular strip would be an advantage.
Good luck with your project!

Are there any recommendations for specific LED strips with suitable mounting options, or ones that match well in length with the Platsa system? To address your question more specifically – I have had good experiences with so-called LED aluminum profiles. These are often a bit stiffer than regular strips but very robust and, thanks to included clips, easy to mount under shelves or in corners. They give the lighting a very professional look.
Variants with 12V operating voltage are particularly recommended because they generate less heat and are very energy-efficient in use. Most of them can be easily glued or screwed onto carrier boards or the back panel of the Platsa profile, as long as you don’t mind small holes.
Regarding length: pay close attention to the dimensions of the modules (usually 40, 60, or 80 cm (16, 24, or 31 inches) wide). Many manufacturers also offer LED strips in convenient cut lengths, so you don’t have to do much trimming.
If you want to integrate the LED lighting into the edge strip, check if you can use a flat aluminum channel with an opal cover – this looks very high quality and provides a uniform light line.
In general: it’s better to put a bit more planning into the wiring upfront, and you’ll enjoy the lighting for a long time!
