Hello everyone,

The floor drain in the utility room of our new house is installed quite low and is sealed with silicone. I’m not used to this; in our old apartment, the drain cover was level with the tiles and didn’t have any silicone around it. I have already tripped over it several times and nearly fallen. The developer says it’s professionally installed and that this is the standard way. Since I will be using this room daily for laundry, shoe cleaning, etc., and we also have a small child who could potentially trip over it (and then end up falling into the heat pump), I’m really unhappy with the situation and would like to hear your opinion. Do we have to accept such a tripping hazard? Are there easy solutions to fix this?

Yes, this could have been handled better. Is there a slope in the entire room towards the drain?

Trip hazard? I was about to reply sarcastically, but I’ll hold back. There is no trip hazard present.

@nordanney I have caught my foot on it several times and almost fallen, so I don’t understand why you want to respond with irony. It is 1cm (0.4 inches) lower there and poses a tripping hazard. There is a slope present.

I didn’t offer you the formal “Sie” ;-)

Practical tip: Lift your feet *sarcasm off*

Ok, you have a funny side. Maybe there will be some constructive feedback here as well 😉

When I unload the washing machine, I step into it with my foot, and lifting my feet doesn’t really help.
