Carlin3Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of perfectly aligning my newly installed Ikea Metod kitchen fronts. Despite several adjustments, some doors still appear slightly crooked or not flush, which is visually very bothersome to me. My question is: How can Ikea Metod kitchen fronts be aligned so precisely after installation that all doors and drawers line up correctly, the gap measurements are consistent, and there are no unwanted angles or distortions? Perhaps someone has systematic methods or special tips for optimally adjusting the fronts, especially when multiple elements are installed side by side. Advice on practical tools, the order of work steps, or notes on commonly overlooked issues would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Interesting question. In my opinion, there is too much discussion about perfect alignment, while slight deviations in Ikea Metod cabinets are completely normal and technically almost unavoidable – this is simply mass production with tolerances. Sometimes perfection is nothing more than a myth. You can make adjustments, but it’s not worth spending your time trying to achieve micrometer-precise fronts. It’s better to stay relaxed and accept the fronts as they are.

The correct approach is to systematically use the adjustment mechanisms of the Metod fittings. Each door is adjusted in three planes (vertical, horizontal, depth), and the process starts with the most challenging elements to align, usually the largest doors in the center. The key is to understand the tolerances of each front and compensate for them individually. Only by doing this can a uniform appearance be achieved.
For clarification and for those who prefer a structured approach:
- First, level all base cabinets precisely and align them at the same height, as the cabinet fronts will only fit properly on a perfectly even surface.
- Next, loosely attach all fronts to check the gap sizes and overall appearance.
- Then, with the cabinet door open, adjust the front orthogonally using the adjustment screws on the Metod hinges.
- Important: Adjust the drawer fronts separately, as different closing forces often need to be considered there.
- Regularly check in between adjustments to ensure that adjusting one front does not misalign others.
If followed strictly, this method yields very good results.

If it helps, here’s a small tip from my experience: The Metod hinges have three adjustment screws that can be a bit stiff at first on certain fronts. A light layer of rust protection or dirt can make adjustments more difficult. I recommend treating the screws with some multi-purpose oil (e.g., WD-40) before installation. This makes it much easier to adjust the doors precisely and smoothly after hanging them. Additionally, I suggest using a spirit level or, even better, a laser level if available. This greatly simplifies the alignment check.
In addition to proper alignment, it is important to check that all fronts and cabinets sit flush against the wall and floor. Unevenness in the substrate can cause shifts and tilting to occur. It is advisable to tighten the cabinet connectors securely, as loose connectors can make the position of the fronts unstable. Finally, it is recommended not to screw the fronts on too tightly, allowing some room for fine adjustments.
