Hello everyone, after a renovation in my apartment, I have some IKEA Platsa furniture that is unfortunately quite covered with dust, fine construction debris, and paint splatters. Since these pieces are made of coated engineered wood, I would like to know the best way to clean them thoroughly and gently without damaging the surface or risking discoloration. What cleaning products and tools do you recommend, and are there any specific procedures I should definitely follow, especially after renovation work? I look forward to practical tips and advice!

If it is water-based paint, the most important rule is to act as quickly as possible. The paint can dry and then becomes more difficult to remove. Here is the optimal process: - First, gently moisten the paint with a soft cloth and lukewarm water, and try to wipe it off carefully. - Avoid applying pressure to prevent damage to the surface. - Plastic or wood protection on the Platsa surface is sensitive to moisture, so wipe dry immediately. - If residue remains, you can carefully use isopropyl alcohol (70%), but test only on an inconspicuous area first. - Important: Never leave it on for too long or rub intensely, to avoid damaging the material.

Wow, great tip! I’ve never tried isopropanol before, but I will definitely give it a go. I’m sure these precautions will help avoid any damage. And if a stain does remain: the PLATSA units always look great with a fresh coat of paint or a cover film. 😉

First, remove dust. Then, dampen a soft cloth with mild dish soap and water to treat stains. Wipe dry immediately. Do not scrub. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

Are there risks that water could cause the furniture structure to swell or leave permanent stains?

Yes, that’s exactly why quick and careful handling is important. The wood-based materials in PLATSA are sensitive to prolonged or excessive moisture. After extended contact, the surface may swell or change color. Therefore, never wipe with too much water; instead, use only a lightly damp cloth and immediately follow up with a dry cloth.

I also think it’s a good idea to dry any remaining moisture with a hairdryer on a low setting after cleaning, just to be on the safe side.

If you want, you can check if you have specific stain removers at home, and then I can give more precise advice about their suitability.
