Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy a Brimnes bed from Ikea, but I have some concerns about the wall mounting. My question is: How secure is the Ikea BRIMNES wall attachment really, especially regarding stability and long-term durability?

I’m interested in experiences with the included mounting hardware as well as tips on how to improve it, for example with older or less load-bearing walls.

What problems or risks can arise if the connection is not done properly, and are there any professional tips on how to minimize the risk?

I look forward to your experiences and assessments!

Hey Craiglen!

Great question! I installed my BRIMNES frame on the wall myself and can say: If you use the included anchors and screws properly, the piece will hold very securely! 😃

Of course, it depends on the wall, but with standard masonry, it’s absolutely safe. Just follow the instructions carefully, and you won’t have any issues.

If you’re unsure, you can always use stronger anchors or add extra reinforcement inside the wall. But basically: Don’t worry – it will work! 🙂

The BRIMNES mounting is designed for standard walls. Insert the screws and anchors, tighten them, and you're done.

Problems only arise with porous or very thin walls. In those cases, it is better to use special anchors.

I think it’s important not to rely blindly on the supplied fasteners.

I agree, and I would add that wall composition, especially in older apartments, can vary greatly. Simply using the universal anchors from the kit on solid masonry walls can lead to issues.

The allowable load capacity of the fasteners seems somewhat limited if you want to hang a headboard with support or a decorative item. That means: if you want more stability, you should either use stronger anchors or metal brackets yourself.

I’m interested to know if anyone here has specific tests or measurements regarding the load capacity of the Ikea fasteners?

I’m wondering if the whole wall anchoring for IKEA furniture is more of a safety feature required by standards than an actually necessary measure.

Honestly, the BRIMNES beds aren’t exactly heavy-duty concrete installations.

How bad would it be to just use the frame without fixing it to the wall?

I suspect many people simply ignore it and rarely have any issues.

So is this more about marketing or is it really a technical necessity?

Thanks for the initial feedback! I'm especially interested in whether you installed it in a new build with a solid wall or rather in an older house?

This is crucial for me as well, since I want to use the wall attachment even with a slight headboard or back cushion behind the bed. If the weight or shear forces increase, that could become problematic.

@Muso4: The point about necessity is interesting. I get the impression it’s meant to prevent tipping over—which can be particularly important with children. But whether it’s essential for normal use is a good question.
