Hello everyone, I am planning to furnish my small apartment with some IKEA Brimnes pieces—specifically the bed and dressers. Since the rooms are quite limited in size (about 12 sqm (130 sq ft) in total), I’m wondering how to do this best without overcrowding the space or restricting accessibility. Are there any proven methods or assembly tips for Brimnes furniture that are especially useful in small apartments? For example, should certain panels or drawers be assembled first, or how can the furniture be positioned most efficiently? I look forward to practical advice and also to hearing about your experiences using or assembling Brimnes in small spaces.

It is best to sort all parts first, especially screws and wooden components separately. Then carefully follow the instructions step by step, assembling the larger parts first. When setting up, pay attention to the opening radius of the drawers to ensure they can open fully.

A structured approach is especially helpful in tight spaces.
- Plan the furniture placement so that access to drawers and doors is fully ensured.
- Assemble larger units, such as the bed frame, outside the room whenever possible and then bring them in hooked, to avoid space issues during installation.
- Make sure to fully assemble the drawers first, as they are usually the most delicate and difficult to adjust later.
- Make optimal use of the built-in storage compartments of the Brimnes bed by storing items you don’t need regularly in advance.
- Avoid placing furniture too close to walls if drawers on the opposite side need to be opened.
This way, the room remains functional without feeling overcrowded.

The key lies in a well-planned assembly process and a clear space analysis:

- First, measure the room dimensions precisely, especially doorways and corners, to ensure the furniture fits perfectly.
- With Brimnes furniture, the drawers can often be assembled separately. Build them before final placement, as installing them in tight spaces can be challenging.
- Allow some extra space when setting up the furniture so the drawers can be aligned without damage.
- Avoid using too many pieces with similar colors and shapes at once to prevent visually cluttering the room.
- Experiment with positioning by marking floor areas with tape to simulate placement.

This approach minimizes mistakes and makes handling on site much easier.

I am providing a brief step-by-step guide that has proven effective for the Brimnes and small rooms:

1. Lay out all parts and tools completely, preferably on a well-lit, flat surface.
2. Assemble the bed frame first, but do not place it firmly against the wall yet.
3. Fully assemble the drawers first (align the side rails); this works best if you prepare them on the floor.
4. Before placing the furniture finally, set it up temporarily in the room and mark the outlines with tape.
5. When screwing parts together, make sure to use the supplied metal brackets and wall plugs, as using different ones can reduce stability.
6. To optimize space, use the depth of the Brimnes bed as storage and keep seasonal items there.

Common mistakes:
- Installing drawers too early before the main frame is stable.
- Positioning furniture too close to the wall, preventing drawers from opening fully.
- Lack of sketches or room plans, leading to incorrect placement.

Successful assembly depends on the combination of preparation, intermediate steps, and final inspection.

I can only confirm this. For small rooms, it is much easier than assembling everything step by step on site.

Also: After installation, open and close the drawers immediately to quickly detect any problems caused by misalignment.
